Tues: Weber vs Montana State - Semifinal

Old School Cat,

Explain to us, what happened? How can your team the way they finished the season go to Mazola and win, and now win at Weber?

Even with MSU's inside game, I thought the Bobcats had no chance.

I have followed MSU athletics pretty hard for the past 20+ years. In men's basketball, it has almost become tradition that we start out strong and then flop in February. I don't know if it's a coaching thing, a conditioning thing, whatever. But if you go back and look at our record, we always end the conference season on a losing streak. Hence, a big reason why going into this tourney, the Bobcats had not won a BSC tourney game since 1999 - we just usually have not confidence or momentum.

I knew this team had some talent this year, the big question would be our youth with only having one senior on the team. Early on, we had some big wins against Colorado and Oregon State. We lost to Boise State and Nevada, but only by the slimmest of margins, and actually had leads in both those games. With early conference wins against you guys and PSU, I really thought we had something going. But then teams learned how to defend us - double team our bigs and force us to hit from outside. Our youth and inexperience showed up, and we spent the last month and a half running around like chickens with our heads cut off. The one thing we had going for us most of the season was our defense. We can play a pretty stifling defense, and it showed agsinst UM last Saturday night. We didn't shoot the ball well, but we absolutely shut Montana down. Last night, we played pretty good D, but we did something we have done in almost 2 months - we shot the ball well.

The magic may very well come to an end tonight against a very good PSU team. We do have a win against them this season, and it will be a neutral court game, all which plays into MSU's favor. I can't say I am completely surprised by the Bobcats' resurgence, but it will be tough for us to put together a 3 game spurt. I do know there's probably a lot of other Big Sky fans rooting against us, because they don't want the #6 seed representing the Sky in the Big Dance.

That pretty much sucked. I was just plain angry for most of the night after the game. While not a waste of a season, the goal for any team is to go the NCAA tourney. Weber did not do so, therefore the season is a waste from that aspect. They really needed to go to the tourney this year for the benefit of the athletic program. Who knows, maybe this will teach the young 'uns on the team a lesson in not relaxing or thinking you can show up and win and that lesson will benefit the team next year.

If you ask the players I am sure their number 1 goal was to win the regular season conference championship first. We accomplished that goal with a great group of players and outstanding coaches. Last night did suck, we had a bad shooting night, time to move on. We are still playing, the ending of this season has not be written.

Punch a Griz fan in the face.
Leaves little room for purple people to claim class or assert that others lack it.

MONTANA

Has anyone noticed when we lose the Griz make sure to come post.

And when we school the Griz they disappear from the face of the earth?

After we destroyed you twice in hoop, did you see us posting on egriz rubbing it in? No, thats what you guys do. Why are you even talking about class?

One thing I do know is 2009 will be Weber's 4th Pres Cup out of the 7 years its been around. So I guess you can decide for yourself who is ruling the 'Sky!

I forgot to mention, there is another sport. It's called basketball. They play during Nov-March.

After you beat us in football your fans were talking all kinds a trash, its is no big deal before a game, everyone does that. After the fact though is pretty tacky, or "class"less to use your term.

Didn't one of your classing fans even start a thread on our forum called "You For Fu**in Sports"? Ya I think so.

Then we beat you in basketball, and we were wondering where you all were?

You guys claim you don't care about basketball, what ever, your team competes for a title every year! You can only support em if they can win the title 16 years in a row?

And your fans that do "care", well I've seen the threads on your board, I'm sure your players and coach love your forum. You guys talk so much crap on them, I guess your expecting them to go to the final 4 or something. I hope Tinkle and the players don't know about your forum or ever see it. I'd feel bad for em reading those posts.

Why bother? Both schools have classy and classless fans.

I'll admit it... I was very classless at Wednesday's title game... I don't think it would have reflected well on the Big Sky if a team with a losing record got into the NCAA's... We never want to see a Big Sky team have to play in the PLAY-IN game... As for Huse and his Bobcats, they had a great tournament. MBunga should definitely be a 1st teamer and the Bobcats MVP... He is the biggest reason why they found success at the end of the season. Granted, they have a lot coming back, and will be a definite senior-laden team, but PORK CHOP isn't the answer to losing Bunga. They need a good center next season... As for Weber, I know that MORRIS Could become a very dominate center if he only could play with consistency, which I'm sure is going to happen. Weber isn't senior-laden, but extremely experienced and young... DANGEROUS COMBINATION..

For you DA GRIZZ... I think UM has some talent coming in. You need it. I really like Taylor and, of course, AJ... But there is a lot riding on Selvig, Hutchinson (true Freshman next season), and the duder who is a red-shirt right now (sorry I totally just forgot his name) to play well at center... That is what UM really needs. For you, I hope that Cherry comes along. For Weber, and me... I don't. Thurman... I don't know. His knees aren't very good, and it sounds like he has injury issues. That may have been the reason why he wasn't overtly recruited, but he is a definite diamond in the rough.

I won't play with the honest credit you deserve for your regular season football win, and while I'd like to see the Griz Men beat what purple remains, I have to say that most of us don't pay too much attention to that program. It's all Football and Lady Griz around here, as it has been for most of us for years. We can't have it all, so have at the Men's program.

Oh, you said something nice in october of 2008. do you want a cookie for being so classy? I can't wait for this october when you act classy again. I'll make sure to mark it on my calendar so i can see what you say.

See, this is what I'm getting at. People using class to get a step ahead of the other guy. Cut it out, it's so high-and-mighty. Forget class. Just be honest and up-front, stop hiding behind one of the most abused and twisted concepts of sports.

You attack Griz fans for disappearing when we lose. I showed you that not all of us do. Now you're mad because my "nice" comment is a whole four months old. Wonder what spew is to follow!

Hmm... that sounds right, at least at first blush. Have to mull it over.
