The early signing period runs from December 20-22. Anyone who doesn’t sign during this time can sign during the normal window in February.

So, what is the impact for FBS and FCS teams? Do FCS teams get a few higher end players during the Feb signing who don't sign in the early period and find themselves without a scholie because their FBS offer disappears as a team signs another player early? It certainly has to effect JC transfers who have to compete with HS players right? FCS can get a few more top JC's maybe? (if we could snag a JC DL, RB or DB that would be sweet)
Haven't followed the speculation, but it feels like early Christmas to me![]()
You crack me up, Mr. Definitive. You started this thread, any thoughts on how the early signing period will affect the type of recruits EWU will get?clawman said:As I watched part of or all of playoff games, we can use help in lots of places.
Not to be lost in the shuffle is JUCO Signing Day. This date used to be theirs alone. Ohio State holds a commitment from 247Sports’ top-ranked JUCO prospect Antwuan Jackson. In those same rankings, Alabama has the No. 2 player, corner Saivion Smith, Mississippi State has the fourth-best, wideout Stephen Guidry and Georgia’s got the No. 5 prospect, defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt. As you can see, there’s the usual SEC flair in the chase for the top JUCO prospects. The No. 3 player, Teair Tart-Spencer, is actually tops in the 247Sports Composite’s JUCO rankings. The East Mississippi C.C. product (Last Chance U) has just one Crystal Ball prediction and it’s to Alabama.

Not sure I agree we need help in "lots of places". Don't want to split hairs, can always use upgrades to increase competition and think this is true of the coaching staff as well.
Still see the early period as a way to capture some better talent at the February signing when they miss out or are undecided, but would love to get some other informed insights. Certainly think it will take some players off the board allowing coaches to focus on best recruits available down the stretch. Could be wrong.
Negative impacts?

Interesting take. As I watched the playoffs, I continued to believe EWU was shafted and was easily at least a quarterfinal team. Bottom line, EWU would have lost against NDSU or JMU and probably even a Sam Houston St, but was better than most teams in the field...but I'm not bitter. It's not like a 7 seed Wofford lost by a bigger margin to NDSU than we did in our second game of the season after major off season changes.
I think we need linebacker help and more D line depth. With those two things, the team will be in the national mix next year.
Love the SALTY attitude Ranger. Agree with your assessment as we have some of the best depth in FCS, right now the 18 class looks great and hoping for one or two upside surprises like the Sise transfer.EWURanger said:We don't need major help in most or even "many" areas. Our offensive and defensive lines were beat up the majority of the season. WR's were young and not on the same page as our QB during the early portion of the season. We had a QB coach get promoted to OC late in the game, having to replace arguably the best offensive player in Big Sky history and two other NFL quality receivers. This was supposed to be a down year, and despite all of this adversity a brand new coaching staff found a way to win 7 Division I games. All you need to do is look at the past few recruiting classes to see what the future of the program is. Playmakers all over the field and with another off-season under the belts of the staff we'll be right back in national title contention. We lose exactly one player off of the offense. The O will be in the top 3 nationally next year.
Granted, we do need help at LB and DT, but more in terms of competitive depth because we seem to get riddled with injuries there every year.
8-3 in the regular season next year at worst, and I think we'll be better than that.
