UC-Davis Stats

UC Davis doesn't have the pressure of worrying about the FCS playoffs - I think we've already kissed that goodbye. We're looking to win every game we can and try for a winning season and/or conference championship. Neither may be possible with the way the team has played so far. The offense is coming together slowly but the defense is a disaster. Unless things start to gel in this game, it will be a long season.

GoAgs72 is right on the mark. Just last year, our D stopped Boise on several goal line stands. This year is a different story.

Wildcats, please, please, please, don't ever loose to Slack State again!

AGREED

There is one thing worse than loosing to Sac St. That would be loosing to the, soon to be, perenial 12th place team in the BSC. Need I say more?

There is absolutely nothing worse than losing to Slac State.

So, it looks like there is some bad blood between Suck and Davis. Is this a long standing feud we should know about? Is it as heated as the Montana - Montana St., Weber - Idaho St, etc rivalries? It would be nice to hear about this since you guys are joining the Sky soon. BTW WELCOME TO THE BIG SKY :D :D :D :D :D :D

I graduated with my first degree from UCD in 1978, so I have seen a lot of UCD - Slac State football games. The schools are about 25 miles apart and compete for the same TV and media coverage. Like other states, we have state colleges and university of CA system for public higher education. At UCD, we have a veterinary school, a medical school, a law school, etc. We are also an Ag school. Entrance as an undergraduate is highly competitive - these kids are all A students out of high school. A degree from UCD is highly regarded. Slac State on the other hand, is where students go when they can not get into the U of CA system. It is a good rivalry, which has gotten out of hand at times. UCD, with higher academic standards for students, misses out on some talented athletes because they can not handle the academics. But, we have won "most" of the football contests historically. Slac State has won the last two.

Cal Poly SLO is a state school with an outstanding academic program and a great football program. They are our other big rivals, but from this fans perspective, I have great admiration for that school.

Maybe others can chime in from the Aggie Board and give you their perspective.

I for one, am very happy that there are going to be two highly respected academic institutions joining the Sky. HOnestly, I really wish SLO and Davis were joining the Sky as full memebers. Oh well...

As for the game. Weber needs to improve on three areas. 1. DL needs to put pressure on the QB and be more consistent getting into the backfield. 2. Cam needs to relax and just have fun. Against Sac, granted, there were some really insteresting calls that screwed Weber out of points which aren't his fault, but you could tell that he wasn't comfortable. He needs to find a WR he has absolute faith in. You could tell, last week, that he was hesitant throwing to some guys. 3. DISCIPLINE!! Way to many TO's and Penalties this season. There were way to many, AGAIN, last week. Granted, Yes, there was only one actual TO, but you have to remember that there were three other indirect TO's which resulted in SAC scores, or in Weber not getting needed points.

For instance, first, the roughing the punter call...Weber had excellent field position and had stopped SAC, which gave the defense, overall team, momentum and confidence. Yet, it was all for not, because it was erased after the penalty. Not only did the Hornets get the ball back, but SAC scored at TD on the ensuing drive.

Next, the fake FG, that was an absolute disaster. WTF was that play?? Okay, the holder picks up the ball and runs a boot-leg towards the short side of the field. Did the OC not learn from last years MSU loss?

Finally failing to convert on a couple of 4th downs. Granted, the last one was a crap shoot since SAC was playing for the W and Weber was playing not to lose (which happens to often). But the previous one was again, an idiotic call.

I hop they worked out the kinks duirng the week and can play a total game today for Homecoming.

Final Montana 28, Sac State 25 - Sac St could have won this game.

I think the Aggies will make a game of it tonight but this looks like a down year for the Aggies. I expect UC Davis to emerge in the middle of the pack in the Big Sky in two years.

After seeing the Ags play this evening, I would say that you already are better than ISU, the soon to be, 12th place finisher in the BSC.
