UC Davis Thread

I think the loss of St. John and the injury to moses definately showed itself. The oline will have to perform better for the offense to suceed. Feakin seemed to have trouble with 93 all night. Other than Heerspink and Brennan C the Oline is young and inexperienced. THat will change with time.

Yeah we've got relatively inexperienced OT's. Our inside at G/C/G is our strength on the O Line. We'll see how well our boys can hold the pocket as #3 Tim Plough isn't the most mobile of QB's but he can definitely take a hit, and has a good arm. You may see a shorter passing game for the most part on Saturday, with the occaisional deep strike to #1 Chris Carter or #2 Brandon Rice.

Look for the TE's to get more involved this game as well, and of course #9, Trombetta will be our workhorse in the rushing department.

I hope to hear word on Punzal soon having him next to feakin will hopefully help feakin out. How familiar are we with Feakin's back up?

Uc Davis is going down. Bottom Line. Look at the stats we own this team year in and year out. There is no OBSF here to tell us we are wrong. We are not the underdogs wake up Viking Nation! This is our game to lose. I respect UC Davis fans buts its the truth. This is going to be the rowdiest PGE they have ever seen.

You know, the crowd won't be a big issue I don't think. We played at Youngstown fairly well and did what we could against Texas Christian in Fort Worth last season. We also destroyed Montana State 45-0 last year in Bozeman. The key here is like you said, PSU has always played well against the Aggies, the DII Aggies. Our last meeting in 2005 was a close one if I recall. But the coaching has changed, and you've got a new system these Viks are learning, very pass happy. We've essentially changed nothing about our scheme, and it has proven effective for 37 seasons now. So I think you should respect the UC Davis Football Team as well as the fans. We're young, but this isn't going to be a very predictable game. I'll be there to see with my own eyes. /users/31/07/37/smiles/880372.gif

I recall the 2005 game in Davis, I played in it. Had the Davis punt returner not dropped the PSU punt to give the ball back to us late in the 4th quarter Davis would only have needed a field goal to win.

I would like to think that PSU is just going to roll the Aggies due to past experiences but I did not see enough in McNeese to say that the VIks can dominate Davis.

45-0 last year in Bozemen scares me, the last two times PSU was in Bozemen they let a less quality team come away with a victory, PSU better come ready to play this Saturday.

The MSU team that Davis played last year was definately not the team that PSU lost to. Don't get me wrong, that was a great quality win by Davis, but MSU had some issues at that point in the season. Wasn't that a week after they dropped one at home to a DII team? Again, not taking anything away from the Davis win...

You guys played a strong opponent last week, but the final score could have been a lot worse, as the Cowboys helped PSU all night with 109 penalty yards, two horrible punt snaps, a couple of drops and a fumble.

Looks like we have two hungry teams facing off Saturday in what should be a GREAT crowd at PGE Park.

Good luck to both sides.

I was thinking earlier today, Mouse's version of the R&S requires a very different type of QB. With 2 Wide outs and 2 slot backs going out every play that leaves 5 lineman and a RB to block sometimes 6-8 people every play. That will ware on the linemen and the RB. With that said in order for this offense to be successful we need a quick QB with a quick release. I think Conor Kavanaugh will be a bigger commit then I thought he would be, he may be very instrumental in the future.

Chirp, chirp. Chirp, chirp. WOW it's quiet over here!! Guess everyone's taking their time getting home from a disappointing loss.

It was a GREAT hard fought game that was a tale of two halves. You guys were dominating most of the first half, with mistakes on our part adding insult to injury. We obviously re-grouped and got fired up at the half and exploded at the outset.

Our defense seemed to be swarming all over the place, getting to your QB and never giving time for plays to develop. And our QB definitely stepped up, as did a number of receiving targets as our two main receivers (Chris Carter and Chris Miller) went out injured.

The goal line stand in the fourth quarter was unbelievable and I wish I was there to witness it. It was a two score game, so you guys could have kicked the field goal. But knowing you were SOO close must have been tempting to get the bigger score first. Never know when you'll get that close again.

I hope we showed you that the Aggies are a worthy opponent and not to be taken lightly or judged based on last week's performance. Look forward to the next time we meet (is it in Davis?).

Again, great game and sorry one of us had to go 0-2. Good luck with the rest of your schedule.

I went to the Aggies' first loss in Portland in 1975. I wish I could have made their first win. How did the Aggie Band-uh sound? My older son was there, in the band. That six-play goal line stand are the plays of the game.

UC Davis 26
Portland State 17

Bottom Line.

The crowd was not what I expected it to be at all. PSUViks, you said the town was on fire, but there were a lot of open seats.

I really wish you guys the best of luck the rest of the way. I only ask for one thing, crush Slac State.

Wow. This loss was really hard to stomach.

This game was basically ours to take in the first half, but dropped passes and dumb plays kept Davis in it.

Then we were out-coached in the second half.

Second half play calling on the offensive side of the ball was horrid. It can only be summed up by the six play tragic combo of us trying to move the ball two feet into the endzone late in the game.

Our o-line is not good. Nine sacks. Nine! Please tell me Punzal does not have a serious knee injury. He limped off the field and collapsed early in the fourth quarter.

Last night couldn't have gotten any worse. For one the all black look is just not PSU. 2 if we can't beat UC-Davis at home who in the world are we going to beat?

We'll be lucky to beat Sac State next week at this point.

This score could have been worse if UC Davis hadn't put the ball on the turf and made many mistakes in the first half.
