UCD has shown some glimpses of being a decent team.

Lost a close game to SDSU in Brookings.
Thumped Weber by 24 pts.
Played the Bobcats tough, 7 point loss.
Lost to NAU by two scores in Flag.

Saying all of this because if the players spend too much time basking in the glory of the Cal Poly victory we could let one slip away.

UC Davis is good....but they shouldn't stand a chance coming to Cheney....

If we come to play we should roll in this one. Need to jump on them early, just like Cal Poly.

It's hard to know what to make out of "playing Montana State tough." MSU has that mentality that we were showing until last week of just letting teams hang around and trying to win it on a couple of big plays at the end. In a way, the Southern Utah loss might help us get back to reality where we recognize that we're susceptible to losing to sub-mediocre teams if we don't come out and play a complete game. MSU, largely due to their fluffy schedule, haven't really had to learn that yet.

MSU is set up perfectly to get clobbered by UM who is playing for pride and a winning season, against their biggest rival and in their own house. Last year MSU destroyed ISU in similar fashion to their win against UND, then went out the next week and struggled with Weber. They struggled with Sac this year. Then two weeks later...

It's the annual kitty cat collapse.

Hi fellas. UC Davis has been up and down this season, obviously more downs then ups. The team is just inconsistent from one week to the next. I think several of us on our board attribute it to our QB, but there is more to it than that. But when Wright has a good game, we win. When he doesn't, well, thank goodness for a good tailgate before the game. We do not have enough wins at this point for a winning season, so that puts us in the position of playing the spoiler role. We desire to be back on top and in the playoffs, but a lot needs to change for that to happen. Bob Biggs, long time coach, classy fella, has two games left before he retires. I hope we give you guys a good run for your money.

Its funny to see how they just think they are going to get the #2 seed in the playoffs....they are at the losing end of a 3 way battle for 2nd place in their conference, yet they think they will receive the #2 seed in the playoffs....

I don't think it matters because they are going to walk into a buzz saw in Missoula next weekend, I like the Cats more than the Griz, but I think they are in for a world of trouble in that game...Griz have 2 weeks to prepare for their Super Bowl this year....it could get ugly.

Welcome! Sounds like your team has a lot of emotion going into the game. It's a dangerous combination and I'm hoping our players are ready. Nothing more scary than a team that wants to be a spoiler and honor a beloved coach.

Welcome to the Board and to the Conference...should be a good game on Saturday, but you can send coach Biggs out with a win against Sac, not EWU...

Glad to have UC Davis in the conference...

Sorry, but coach Biggs has all the wins he is going to get. Sad but true.

It's gonna be cold for this game, high of 30 for the day, which would favor Eastern over Cali boys. Also, Eastern knows what's at stake in these final 2 games. The great thing about Coach Baldwin, his staff, and the players, is they take it one play at a time on both sides of the ball. I do think EWU will get a great effort from a UCD team, whose record is worse than it looks, but home field, coaching and overall play-making talent on both ends on the ball will prevail. Also, keep the turnovers in our favor, then a big win for EWU.

• Aggie opponents have been heating up in the red-zone over the past four games, going a perfect 12-for-12 during that time while scoring 100 points (13 TD's, 3 FG's).
• Montana State and Idaho State were each 6 for 6, Northern Arizona was 1 for 1 and Portland State finished 3 for 3.
• Their performances have led the Aggies to fall to 105th in FCS red-zone defense with a season percentage of 87.5 percent (23 TD's 5 FG's; 28 of 32 overall for 175 pts).
• Conversely, UC Davis is 28 of 32 (.824) and has very similar numbers overall: 171 pts, 22 TD's. 6 FG's)... The Aggies are T-52nd in red-zone offense.

UC Davis fans and local media seem to think Dan Hawkins will be their next coach. Interesting, because Idaho fans seem to think Hawkins will be their next coach as well. He'd have to be a pretty damn good coach to get two teams moving!

Idaho is probably willing to pay $400k; I doubt UC Davis could even match half of that. However, and I didn't know this, Hawkins is a UC Davis alum. That might be a trump card. I guess it would come down to his personal financial situation. If he's invested his money well, maybe UC Davis has a good shot. If he's starting to struggle being out of coaching for 4 years, he's more than likely to move to the biggest paycheck.

Interesting - I didn't know that the Idaho fans thought Hawkins would be hired there. Not everyone thinks that he will be the hire at UCD; I think some of that is as much hoping as based on any facts. As seen in the current staff, the Ags love to hire their own, and many do return to coach there. Whether or not that is a good thing can be debated (see the past results). But it hard to move past that predilection. However, the Chancellor has made moves outside that tendency, particularly in the selection of the new athletic director, Terry Tumey (a UCLA and NFL guy), whose job it is to hire the next head coach. Based on Tumey's hire, I would guess that he would go further outside than to hire yet another alum, but I could be wrong. Either way, the announcement should come in November, shortly after the end of the season.

As for this game, we know it will be a tough one; you are a good team, and the weather and home turf is on your side. This has been a challenging season for us in many ways. Yet we do play pretty tough at times, so I think it is not a team to write off. We will just have to see how it goes!

I know that Dan applied for the job, and is one of the finalists for the job. I wouldn't bet my life that he will be the next coach, but, I fully expect that he will be the guy they name later this month. they won't choose anyone currently on the staff.

DrMike: Are you talking from the perspective of Idaho or UC Davis? It sounds like he's talked to both universities.

Keep in mind, schools may try to hire someone and not reach an agreement, especially a guy like Hawkins who probably has his own parameters by which he'll take the job. Go back 5 years, and Baldwin wasn't EWU's first choice. EWU selected then-Fresno State OC Jim McElwain (now HC at Colorado State following a multi-year stint as OC at Alabama) but couldn't come to terms. Jeez, you talk about good selection criteria... EWU has it. Our second choice (Baldwin) has been fantastic.

sorry, Dopa...i meant Davis. Dan and I played together for the Aggies way back. I can't imagine he would be interested into stepping into the Idaho mess, after inheriting a real mess back at Colorado. Davis has its limitations, of which he's well-aware, but I think he can work with the new AD to get things moving in the direction they need to compete at this level. we'll see how it turns out. Another name that gets mentioned is Nate Hackett, also a former Aggie. He's the OC at Syracuse and son of former college and NFL coach (and former Aggie) Paul Hackett. Heck, maybe Mike Bellotti, yet ANOTHER Aggie, will be the darkhorse candidate!

You're right, Idaho is a mess. It's hard to imagine any coach going there and having any type of sustained success. That ship is sinking at warp speed. The only reason you might see an established name jump on that job is because a $400k job is hard to find.

Sounds like you have a lot of Aggies in the coaching circle. That always bodes well when you need a new coach. I'm not too familiar with GNAC football, but I heard the coach at Humboldt State is on the short list for a D-I job when somethign comes available.

Has Paul Wulff been mentioned? He's from that area originally. It would probably be a downgrade in pay though since he's an assistant with the Whiners right now.
