UCA 31 vs. Illinios State 24 1st Round UCA IT IS

When is the game and how do we watch?

I think ESPN3 is the answer to the 2nd question.

I will say, from my limited observations of Illinois State, they look as sharp and disciplined as they normally do. However, they do not look as athletic as usual.

I think Ill State will win this one. Granted, I haven't seen much of either team and I'm basing this off of first impressions. I thought Central Arkansas looked very average against Sam Houston State, although that might be a function of Sam Houston State just being really good. Illinois State is an old school, kick-your-ass type of team. That's pretty standard for the MVC.

I agree with this observation. I don't think Central Arkansas is that good. I don't even think they are as good as Weber State.

Illinois State should win this one and we will have another red turf, red bird, red uni match!

Eastern Washington is the #2 seed, doesn't it seem like they got a tough draw?

SHSU got Weber/Chattanooga & btw Central Arkansas is 9-2. EWU could have to host a 10 win team as the #2 seed. Isn't that odd?

It's clear to me that the committee wasn't that impressed with UCA, pairing them with a 6-5 ISU team. I'm not sure what to make of either team seeing as how I've only seen ISU's win over Northwestern, and UCA's loss to SHSU. Should be a good game that I'll definitely be watching.

I'm not sure 9-2 in the Southland means the same as 9-2 in the MVFC, Big Sky, or CAA.

At first blush yes. ISU is playing well and has 2 really good wins. UCA has the talent to beat Sun Belt leading ASU.

Still...it's one of the last teams in or the #2 out of a conference that's rated below the Patriot, Ivy, and OVC in Sagarin.

Had the same initial thought, but if you look at Massey's aggregated rankings; these potential second round matchups are mostly a push assuming the favored team wins round one. Although I think CP and Villanova got best first round matchup's; the actual X's and O's match up of team style's in the second round remains to be seen.

We know what the Redbirds bring style wise. Kind of see ISU v UCA as a microcosm Big Ten v Big 12 style game. Know some people don't see UCA as a good team, but they have good measurables at all positions and are athletic. Definitely lost composure against SHSU, so discipline may be an issue. 2 picks and 3 fumbles in that game. Wasn't impressed with the Redbird offense in the two games I watched, but again look like a mini Big Ten team in many respects. Brain/comfort zone says Redbirds, gut says UCA. Looking for more information on injuries.

I will take UCA by double digits in this one...

They have speed all over the field and they are playing at home, big advantage. ISU will be good, but they aren't nearly as good as they were a couple years ago with a dominating O Line, Great RB, and Dynamic QB.

I think UCA rolls and then we beat them in a track meet on the 3rd...

Not seeing anything new on this game. Redbird fans think they will win and cite NDSU owning SHSU last couple of outings; UCA fans think they will win .. because. Redbird fans win just on mass of participation on their board :-) Spack is a good coach and will have the Redbirds ready to play. If I was a Redbird fan, wouldn't hang my hat on their QB's ability to throw the ball to win this one. Just saying..

This should be a tight game if UCA doesn't turn it over 5 times. Post Thanksgiving games have got to be tough on both teams. Rating this one a toss up. Going with the home team on this one. Bears over Redbirds. UCA 31 - Redbirds 24

Does Central Arkansas' win over Ark State demonstrate their strength? Or does it just speak to the incredible softness of the Sun Belt? After seeing Idaho do well in that conference, I'm of the belief that the Sun Belt is just rotten, rotten football. Central Arkansas may very well be better than I think (which basically means better than they looked against Sam Houston State since that's the only game I've seen), but I don't think beating Arkansas State proves much.
