UM game

Hello all! I just wanted to stop by and say that as always I can't wait for Saturday. Even in a down year I expect a fight and a great game. Hope some of you will be making it here and may the best team win!
Go Griz!

Are you serious? Montana by 20 or 30. Any Weber fan who would drive to Missoula to watch this laugher is more insane than our coaching staff. Montana loses their coach, Jamar, Ward, Deshields and is in contention. While Weber has fallen to the depths of the football program, while getting swept by the worst team in the country in Southern Utah.

Same shit...Weber has a solid lead and Rahe slows it down. Come on coach, ya can't run out the clock with 30 mins to go. Bolomboy is a turnover machine tonight.

Same old problems. We look good for a few minutes and then collapse. Richardson is improving and a bright spot. Really not sure what to say about Joel. Whenever he gets the ball the game slows down. He does not seem willing to pass the ball when he should, just tries to over power double teams. We don't play like a team and we don't have a leader. We just have individuals who think putting up numbers is being a leader. There also seems to be a lack of team chemistry. Almost like they don't get along that well and I wonder if that starts with Joel? Hopefully, we should make the tournament and then we'll see. I only hope that Rahe has learned some lessons this season because next year could be much of the same if he doesn't make some hard decisions. I agree with Tal, Fuller could've helped us this year ... especially more than the JC's did. We should unload a couple of upper class players and make room for younger guys. This group has had more than enough time to show that the end result will be the same (or perhaps slightly better) next year.

Here goes the fuller love fest again. Guys..... He wasn't that good. He's at Dixie state and that the best place for him. We make legends out of marginal players!

You may be right about Fuller, but compared to Hill and Coston he looks like a pretty good option right now.

At the end of last nights game I couldn't believe that Hajek wasn't on the floor. Rahe went back to a small lineup and ended up getting our rebounded and allowing Montana two or three looks. Not only that but Joel cannot guard Breuning. Down 10 3 to go our coach has the wrong guys on the floor. The 5 I go with are Golden, Gittens (he needs to look to pass when penetrating), Richardson, Bolomboy and Hajek.

18 TOs!!!!

I didn't say say he was the greatest player we've ever had, just that I would've rather had him than than some of the kids we have relied so heavily on this year.

Well...not a lot to say about that one. Figured we lose but was hopeful things would come together for our Cats. First, we desperately need a leader. Someone who can help this group of players become a team. Bolomboy isn't the guy to do it. He is a good player and I'm beyond happy to have him but he isn't a leader. I keep hoping it will be Richaud but he has to figure out when to take the ball and when to get his teammates involved. I wouldn't say he is selfish just out-of-control. There is a time to go fast and a time to slow things down. Hill...ugh! I praise his game on Thursday and last night he was dreadfully lost and ineffective. Does he have heart? Passion? Drive? I'm pretty sure he is a really smart kid, that isn't the problem, then what's his deal? Does he put too much pressure on himself? I really think he should come in as the sixth man. Might be a great role for him. Could take pressure off him.

Hell...The Cats really need someone to step up a lead as a team first guy. lastly, whoever is in charge of the bigs should be let go. None of them know how to play with their back to the basket, they are terrible at boxing out, defensively they are soft and give opposing players to much space inside. It almost seems like a guard trying to figure out how to coach bigs but telling them it's okay to play like guards in the paint. Really tough watching.

Hard night! The team just doesn't seem to be willing to step up and seize the moment! I don't know what's wrong with Hill, but he and Bolomboy just didn't seem interested in playing Montana! How can the defensive POY be this passive on defense. Rahe has a tough off season in front of him. Weber is just NOT a good team this year. I'm not sure what to expect next year. Going to the tourney might be a great experience for the team, but a bad lost could set us back even further.

The only expectation I had going into this game was that they played hard. I think that they did that. Right now, we are just lacking in leadership and talent. It hurts us a lot having Senglin out. Plenty has been said about how some individuals performed in this one. I don't disagree with the majority of it. However, as a team, we need to do all of the little fundamental things a little better.

The question was posed about who the 'big man' coach was. From what I have seen there is no one coach in charge of that. They all teach the same fundamentals to all of the players. The problem is not that the coaches are not teaching the fundamentals of all of the positions, it is that the players are not taking it from practices to the games. I'm sure that it is just as frustrating to our coaches as it is for all of us. :twocents:

It's clear its not just the Coach..... It's the talent! Hajek plays hard, but after all the injuries, he's giving us what he can this year. Joel is once and for all playing out of position. If we have a talented and skilled big playing the 5.... Joel would be a monster at 4! Let's face it, Hajek and Hill haven't showed an ability to score from the post. They struggle against good bigs. These same coaches got a lot out of Trez and they will do the same with the next group of bigs. It would be great to have a competent bigs coach. Maybe one that played the position....... Bring back Mook as a grad student or Hajek........ Someone that can teach a big how to beat a double team. Let's face it. Someone this year convinced Rahe that a smaller line up was the way to go. I actually like it when Rahe doesn't make major changes! It blew up in his face this year!

The more I look at it, the more grateful I am that Braxton and Jefferson have red shirted this year. They are very talented, but their talents, as they were coming in, would have been wasted on a year like we are having. They will be soooo much better with an additional year of development, conditioning, and program knowledge. I really look forward to what they can bring to the team next year. Ready or not, at least one of our incoming freshmen will need to contribute. I hope that they come in as good of conditioning as they can. It will help them a lot. :coffee:

I agree, but hope Rahe installs his offense this summer and gives them time to mesh together...... Don't want to hear that we're a young team and need time together. Start this summer with installing the offense versus next fall! Braxton and Jefferson are going to be a welcomed addition....... Still concerned with who is leaving and staying next year! There's only so many spots available! I think Braxton can help next year on the interior....... Jefferson gives us another shooter which is the spot Golden just doesn't have the ability to fill!

Amen!! You are right on.

Who knows what to expect next year. Regrettably, it is looking more and more likely that the Cats will end up losing 2-3 bigs; including Hajek. Braxton will be a welcome addition but who will back him up? Rahe needs another center type big. A Morris type. Dallas is tall but will need a red shirt to bulk up a bit. Nzekwesi is a man but not as skilled and needs a red shirt to gain those tools necessary for DI ball. Probably the same for Juwan Williams, even though he has had a really solid senior campaign. The way Riley Court is playing the Cats could use him immediately but he is mission bound. Cannon was very similar to Riley but is coming back from a mission. A red shirt could be helpful for him. That means that four guys could potentially red shirt next year. Which is a good thing for them but bad for the bench. I love what Richardson, Senglin, Gittens, and Hunter bring back. If Golden stays he'd have a better understanding of what it takes to succeed. I'm thinking Jefferson will really help but that Rahe wants a mature, efficient and glue type guy'. Dusty Baker could be that guy. The guy that binds. Who knows. We really just need guys playing the right positions. Play the best and open up the bench a little more.
