UNC grad Justin Gaethje dominating UFC

Given the depressing state of our football team, I thought I should note that it was not all bad yesterday:

UNC alum Justin Gaethje TKO'd Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone in the UFC main event last night. Gaethje was an All-American wrestler at UNC. He likely gets a title shot soon.

That's really cool, thanks for posting that. Looking at his wiki page and he seems like a great guy including: "Gaethje holds a bachelor's degree in Human Services from the University of Northern Colorado. He has stated his intention to do social work with at-risk youth in the future."

UNC alum Justin Gaethje will be fighting Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 for the interim lightweight title.

I am not really a fighting/UFC guy but I may need to get into it since it's the only game in town (especially since we have a guy to root for).

Looks like the Gaethje vs Ferguson bout will still happen. May 9th is the new date.

What a hell of a win. He dominated all 5 rounds against an absolute legend of the sport. Just awesome! Great job Gaethje!

Gaethje is now the interim lightweight champ!

Next up is Khabib Nurmagomedov in a unification bout this summer, USA versus Russia, Rocky versus Drago.

The time off will allow Gaethje to heal the finger he injured on Ferguson's face.

Khabib is 28-0, #2 in the pound-for-pound rankings of all UFC fighters.

I love how often he wears UNC Bears stuff. It's like half his training gear is from his wrestling days. Really cool.

Another spectacular fight with Gaethje at UFC 268. I was tempted to go but the worst seats in the house would have cost $350 (then there is the travel up and back) and I just could not justify it. Just a great fight night all around and I was thrilled that all 3 of Trevor's fighters walked away victorious.

Awesome fight. Gaethje should get a title fight now.

Agree, it was criminal that they didn't set him up against Dustin for a title fight but Dustin and Dana were too interested in the Connor paycheck. Sounds like a title fight for him is going to be a no brainer.

Disappointing night for JG last night. Not sure if anyone saw, but they interviewed him in the UNC wrestling room. He said when he came to UNC is was going from DII to DI and it was more of a drinking/party culture withing the program and he said he helped change it to a more serious competitive program.
