A win is a win.
I had to miss the first half and part of the second, but got there with about 14 minutes to go.
Some thoughts:
- We just couldn't seem to pull away by more than 6 or 7 late so it was a bit of a nail biter.
- Marcus struggled from the field but found other ways to contribute with five assists and a steal
- I think that the Big Cat's play has been really solid and helps keep Kyle from racking up a ton of minutes.
- Gary Winston had a hell of a game. Also, Wiggins was solid in his 22 minutes.
- Douglas sure plays a lot of minutes. I hope he doesn't start to wear down as the season grinds on.
I really thought this team was ripe for the wheels to come off the wagon when Moore was suspended. Since then, they've won six of eight (yeah, six of those were played at home) and for the most part are doing the little things to win close games. Heck, 8-8 from the free throw line last night in the second half. Yeah, they only made 50% in the first half, but in my opinion, late free throws win close games. I'm not the biggest fan of Geving (not him as a person, but him as a head coach), but credit should go to him for keeping the train on the rails and getting some wins in the process.
With Prosser and Moore gone, I was a little suspect about the four and five guard lineups that we'd be putting out there, but things seem to be clicking. We're not so good at rebounding, but we're first in the conference in assists and assist/turnover ratio, which is what small lineups need to do to succeed.
Like pdxfan said, time for the road, which has been extremely cruel to us over the past few years. Perhaps we can get the elusive split on the trip out to Montana...
