UNC to use the Option

I know lots of people have been horrified at the thought of UNC going to the option but I think it is a good idea to use sometimes considering the state of the team. The option is a simpler offense and it can be effective in college. We didn't have any QB's or receivers last year and this year probably won't be any better (except Birkel but he is useless if we don't have a QB who can throw the ball to him). Also, they are only going to use it part of the time.

The definition of insanity is repeating the same thing over and over again expecting a different result each time. Great move by Coach Downing.

I think right now opeing up the play book a bit will help. We do not have the strongest players in the world, so sulpting the playbook to suit thier stregnths will be good.

As long as it used a little to keep teams off balance that is a good move I think. We don't have an option QB so to think we can rely on it as the main offensive scheme would be foolish. I am willing to see how it plays out and think 5- 15 option plays a game would be enough to really keep a defense off balance. It is useful in that it makes a team prepare for an offense they just don't see much.

All that being said I wouldn't mind them running the option against Hawaii the whole game. We are not going to be able to do much against them anyway, it would speed the game up as the clock continues to run and perhaps we grind out a couple of first downs and it would keep Chadron from seeing what the new offense will really look like.

As long as we don't rely on the option, I can see it being effective as a wrinkle in the offense that we use a couple of times a game.

Downing on the radio this morning mentioned he and Darnell both believe in basically 3-4 plays that work to perfection. That's what Glenn did. BTW, Dominic looks much better then last year, he's droped a few pounds and looks more confident around the guys. The qb situation should be interesting.

Thanks for the info on Dominic. If you are in town, I for one would appreciate any updates you can provide on the team in camp. QB, RB and DL being the three biggest areas of concern for me.
