A convincing or dominant win....no. It took (another) lost 13 point lead, a 3/4 court prayer three pointer just before the half by Calvin, a 4 point play in the final minute by Larson and a potential winning layup by past Lumberjack killer Figures rolling off the side off the rim but it was a win nonetheless. They played mostly hard but I'll be honest that a bit of luck affected the outcome and luck has been a fickle companion this season. Nice to see a little bit of it come the way of the Jacks.

Seven games to go with four on the road and three at home. Three games against the top three in the league. Not an easy endeavor by any means but a playoff bid for conference is within reach. The rest of league has some interesting subplots as well. UM is in third but are not good on the road. PSU's armor (and players' egos?) has shown some weaknesses. UNC, MSU and ISU are the other three teams ahead of NAU in the standings and are far from competitive on the road as well. EWU's on a free fall after starting 3-1 in league and Sacramento State's having another tough season. I'd have to say that Weber State seems to be the most talented and collective team unit I see at the moment in the Big Sky Conference. I think PSU has the most talent but while having many parts don't seem to be the "team" they were last year.

Go Jacks!

Nice analysis Mtjack,

you hit the nail on the head on everything. I watched the first half of the NC game but then had a get together to go to and missed the second. When I came home and checked the score and read the summary of the game, I was so dissapointed and could not believe they almost lost another one. In the first half NAU was having its way sith NC and I don't know how NC even had a chance to win the game but they almost did! This has been the story for the entire season. The team plays well and even seems like the better team for most of the game but can't put teams away and then the opponent comes back to steal the game. It's so frustrating. I also think NAU can still make the tournament, but it really wouldn't surprise me at all if they didn't. I'm really happy with the play of the young players like Johanson, Lepley, and Jones. If they continue to improve NAU will be worthy of a Big Sky championship in 2 years. Right now I'll be happy with making the tournament.

As far as the rest of the conference is concerned I still think Portland will win the tournament and will represent the conference at the NCAA. Weber st. is consistant and talented, but will go down in the tournament even if they host it. They will go down to a determined, focused, and talented PSU team. Idaho St. is overated in my opinion and beatable by any team in the conference, their defense is good though and that alone makes them a dangerous team. Montana has been playing well lately, but have the tendancy to play inconsistant specially on the road and that makes them vunorable specially if they don't host the tournament. They will go out in the first round of the big sky tournament. NC and MSU can play well enough to beat the top teams in the conference when those top teams have off days. Eastern W. has a couple of good players but no depth to make any serious noise. Sac st. plays hard but at the end of the day they are still well... Sac St. They will see better years in the future.

Let's see how these next 2 weeks unfold and where the pieces fall. I can say one thing, win or lose I love my Lumberjacks and wish them all the best wherever they end up. I will wear my blue and gold proud wether we end up last or first.

Let's go Jacks
