UND game

I sure do wish this game were being played downtown. Once through the hill things tend to get exasperating. No light rail to the stadium. No street car to the light rail. Do they even have bus service to the stadium? I want things neatly packaged for my benefit. I am capable of suffering, but not of suffering in silence. Plus, this makes me like soccer even less.

It sucks for those of us who live downtown on campus without a car. Its taking the Blue MAX line to the Orenco/NW 231st Ave MAX Station then a 2 mile stroll to the stadium.

NW 231st Ave! Good Gawd, that is practically in the Pacific Ocean! I'm old and I'm crotchety and I like it that way.

Crap. Looking forward to this game all week and the kid decides to go to homecoming. Picking up the girl at 4 and pictures at our house scheduled for 5. It'll be difficult to get out to the game and get back for it. Maybe I can still do something, but I don't know. Sheesh!!!

I'm excited about the game today. I can't wait to get to Hillsboro stadium. I'm new here. I'm an alumnus from 1970 and graduate school later on. I have watched a lot of PSU football over the years but only a few recently. I've watched the Viks on the tube and I'm impressed with them, particularly Kuresa.

Spring for a cab and have them take a selfie. :D

Welcome and thanks for returning. It seems, from what I'm hearing, that the football team is reconnecting with both the school and the alums this season by this "Barney Ball". I saw an alum from L.A. asking about the Cal Poly game on OLive this past week, who all was coming down and what activities were scheduled. This season has been exciting, reconnecting to those who may have wandered off the last few years.

I really don't understand giving the ball back on 4th and 1 with the game on the line. UND responded by doing exactly what they did all game and ate up the clock.

Either way, we have plenty to clean up, but this is still a great Viking team. We'll pick up more wins for sure.

Wow riding back from the game. North Dakota olayed a really great game. However I can't recall such a boneheaded move as ounting with under 4 minutes to go with 4th and 1. Other than almost assuring defeat it sends a message to your team. It cetainly sent a message to me. I have felt better after the Viks have lost by 3 TD'S.

Let's face it Barney Choked. D played well, but we had no offensive game plan after the first play. Those 5 receiver sets just don't result in drives.

Still scratching my head on that last punt. Nothing tough, blue collar, hard nosed or fundamental about that choice.

Typical mindset of an offensive minded head coach. You guys (defense) need to make one more stop so my guys (offense) can win this. Never mind that you guys (defense) have done enough all game to cover the ineptness of my guys (offense). Just remember, if you guys (defense) can't stop them this time, then we all have lost.

Well, there was some ugly offense both ways in this game. Though I was really nervous after the hot start you guys had. Kind of surprised I didn't see more deep attempts after that.

Overall, two solid defenses. Definitely thrilled to get a win over a quality opponent on the road though. Couldn't believe a few of the calls be our OC, but I'm sure you guys felt the same way, especially with the last punt. I'll admit, I was nervous they were going to go for it, and while I like our Defense ... that could have been a game changer.

Best of luck to you guys the rest of the season. Here is to another FBS win next week, and hopefully a nice run in what is a tough string of games for the Vikings.

Good luck to you guys, too. And thanks for coming in here, making the week a little bit more lively. It was fun.

NOBODY thought PSU would be 3-1 at this point, so while it sucks to lose this "must win" game, they're ahead of where anyone thought they would be.

I appreciate that all of the comments that I've read from Barnum after the game put the blame on himself... a little different than guys like Mike Kramer at Idaho State. I think this lack of calling out his players in the media will go a long way to keeping the team together as they go through this BRUTAL October schedule.

There sure is a lot of talent in that group of receivers that isn't getting the ball much. I get that they're doing the best to build an offense based on the skill sets of the QB, but I honestly forgot that Thomas Carter was on the team until his catch today.

Great game by North Dakota. They did what they had to do.

PSU has been exposed. All that talent on offense yet as bad an offensive performance I have ever seen from any football team. Kudos to UND but really PSU could do nothing. We saw signs of this at the WOU game. I don't think the coaches can fix this.

It makes me sick that we probably have the best defensive unit in 15 years and the one of the weakest offensive teams in forever.

This is true and should not be denied. Also, while North Texas is FBS, they are winless and really have not been competitive in any games so far. I've caught bits and pieces of their games and they are not as good as Wazzu, and even though this game is fresh in my mind, I'd have to say they are not as good as North Dakota either. That could be a confidence game builder that we need with Montana State, Cal Poly and Montana coming up. We're going to need at least 2 wins out of those 3 conference games if we want a shot at the playoffs.

I've been trying to see who the last FCS team was to beat two FBS teams in the same season. I think New Hampshire did it back in the early 2000's when they had an up-and-comer OC named Chip Kelly, but I can't confirm it. The closest I've found is EWU, who beat Idaho and then lost to Wazzu by 4 on a late TD, back in 2009 (??).

UND really outplayed PSU. Even so, PSU still had an opportunity to win the game. I'm a little surprised by the play calling down the end of the game. The middle certainly was clogged, there was no point taking the ball to them, but PSU was having some success running wide. I've been worried the last couple of games that our offense was becoming predictable. I was hoping the bye week would result in a little more creativity on offense. I thought maybe they were holding back some plays against Western.

This can be fixed. I'm still hopeful about this team, I still believe both Montana teams are beatable and so Is Cal Poly. This is going to be a rough run, but they can still find success.

Did anyone notice if Sibley came back into the game after he went down with that injury?

I was wondering the same thing. Toward the end of the game, he was on the sideline running back and forth a little looking like he was testing it out, so that has to be a good sign. I sure didn't see him after that (but with my angle, I may have missed him)
