UNLV Game

This is a link to the video of UNLV's spring game from their website:

Time to scout our first opponent.

With the game a little over a week away I thought it was time to pop this topic back to the top.

I've been doing a little reading on UNLV's team this year, so here is my short, concise and pretty much uninformed scouting report-

  • They return a very strong and experienced offensive line. Considered to be one of the strongest in the Mountain West and the best unit on their team.
  • Will be breaking in a new QB after losing their leader of the past few years.
  • Have one of the premier receivers (Devonte Davis 6'-3", 215 lbs) in the Mountain West conference.
  • Defensive front 7 are very inexperienced and are potentially the weak link on the team. The linebackers are especially young and inexperienced with 1 Junior JUCO transfer, several sophomores and 2 freshman.
  • DB's return some experience and should be very competitive
  • The 2014 Mountain West medial poll picks them to finish in the lower to middle of the pack at best this year.

Last I checked they are 23.5 point dogs in their game against Arizona this weekend.

Good over-view. Does anyone know if this game will be televised? I the MW website does free broadcasts, but they don't do all of the games.

I am not sure, but it looks like this might be where you can watch or get the link to the live stream of the game with UNLV-

Good call. I remember watching a basketball game on that site and the quality was much better than the BigSkyTV stream.

From the little bit of their spring game that I watched on their website, our DBs are going to be tested often. Hopefully our defense will keep us in the game and our offense will help us sneak out a WIN. Go Bears!

I think it will take a complete defensive team effort for our DBs to be successful. The UNLV wide receivers will run wild if the front 7 do not get some pressure on the the QB and force some quicker throws.

On the flip side, I believe our offense may be able to exploit the front 7 of UNLVs defense with short passes to our TEs and RBs coming out of the backfield. Use our receivers to push the DBs down field and hit the TEs going against UNLVs smaller LBs over the middle, hit Holland or Graham coming out of the backfield, or take advantage of Cartagena's quickness and elusiveness with the screen pass.

Anyone catch the UNLV/Arizona game? The Rebels didn't look very well. The Wildcats put up something like 700 yards against their defense. That being said and as 303Bear said, UNLV does have some really good wideouts that might give us fits. Let's get the upset!!!

It's their second game, our first.. their home opener... they will be fired up... we'll pull a "Collins Special" 12 penalties, 4 turnovers...

From the info that I came across it seems like Arizona had their way with UNLV.
Perhaps......

Watched the game and the final score wasn't as close as the blowout score would lead you to believe. :D Arizona let a couple of easy scores slip away.

UNLV''s running game is non existent. Part of that was because they were playing catch up through the air and part of that was because their running game leaves a lot to be desired. On the other hand, their two star receivers were nearly unstoppable. Both had 100+ yard nights.

Their defense is awful though (The Las Vegas paper actually graded the defense as GA as in God Awful. Don't think I have ever seen that used as a grade). Preseason analysis missed the boat on this and even they said the defense would be the weak point. The D-line was pushed around. The linebackers were missing in action and the vaunted DBs were extremely vulnerable over the middle and on the outside for that matter.

I don't know if UNC has the talent to fully take advantage of all UNLVs holes, but they will be able to score some points.
