Hm, I don't like it a bit. Division II opponents stink, and so does a September full of away games. It would have been nice to be at PGE Park a lot while it's still nice outside and then watch the away games on Comcast SportsNet during the rainy season.
On the upside...UM and EWU both at home, that's good. Washington State will be an excellent opponent. Pac-10 but entirely beatable, and also right in the neigborhood. I hope we'll see the more often in the years to come.

As for the open date: Hmmm, let's see...can we have Michigan?

Away games in sept don't bother me because after that school starts and then possibly increase attendance from the current student body.

Agreed. Attendance will certainly be better after the last week of September.

Away. There is not the student population to make it work. I think an in state D 2 is fine, hey, if we want Oregon and OSU to play 'down' to help us we need to be willing to do the same with Western Oregon. For them it is the biggest game of their year and will probably bring two to three thousand fans to Portland for the game. It helps I'm sure with ticket sales.

I think the week two game will be a big BCS opponent, maybe somebody like georgia tech. How sweet would that be.

Glanville has conversations going on that would blow our minds. Trust me. If Appy State can play Michigan than Portland State can one day play Notre Dame. Don't laugh.

Many great points. The DII Western game is a good one. Warm up game (win), added attendance when school is not in session, and an in state game.

What about the SEC rumors that came out last year? Wonder if there is a chance for 2008.

After all of the uproar over playing two or three BCS teams in one year there was a commitment from the administration that we would not make that mistake again. Have they changed their minds?

Three Bowl teams is certainly too many, but two - the right two - may not be. Glanville's still pushing the program, and we need the money. But I admit to some trepidation, given that this is a rebuilding year.

I just don't think I can support multiple FBS games again after what happened in 2006. Maybe if it was a really winable game or a gigantic payout, but even then, I'd still lean against it. To me the main goal has to be making the playoffs, and another likely loss simply doesn't help achieve that goal.

Wait, FBS games don't count towards the playoffs, do they? Also, what do you mean with 2006? As far as I remember, we won against New Mexico and we lost against Oregon. But Oregon wasn't scheduled; PSU just jumped in. Corrections appreciated.

Edit: Oh wait, I forgot about the loss to Cal.

We also lost to Cal that year. Ostensibly we were the 17th team in a 16 team tourny after MSU had the same 7-4 record and a win over us. However, no one can really argue that we'd have been in at 8-3 over a 7-4 MSU even with a loss to them. Scheduling an FCS win or D-II win would've been better than adding the Cal or Oregon games.

Last year practice started on April 16th with the spring game on May 12th.

I'd guess that the spring game would be about May 17th.
