Uptempo Offense

So, I really like the way the O played. They moved the ball really well and looked pretty explosive. However... the uptempo spread Offense only really works if we have a good defense that is in shape and can create turnovers or make 3 and outs.

If you don't have a decent D the whole thing crashes and burns. It's a big concern with that game against Western and the ability of the Defense to do anything. At what point would we stop the uptempo this season if we find the D can't stop anything?

And one more thing, our D was gassed by the end of the first. We need better conditioned players for the team we are wanting to trot out, or the ability to make better/smarter subs.

That's really alarming. There is no reason for us to be less fit than the rest of the teams in the Big Sky let alone a DII team.

And I agree, if our defense can't stop anyone then our offense is going to need to slow the game down and minimize the number of possessions the opponents offense has.

It was good against a mid-level D2 defense, but that's not a true test compared to what we will face the rest of the season.

It was shocking on the stream how many CBs and LBs had hands on their hips, just looking like they had played a full game already, and that was in the first quarter on the third or fourth drive by them. Also on that note, the D seemed to play a really soft zone in coverage, that mixed with no ability to stop an open field tackle was a recipe for disaster.

I noticed how poorly they tackled. Granted, their RB is a load and is probably the best rb in D2. But still, James Riddle was horrible. I saw that he lead the team in tackles, but that was probably 10 or 20 yards behind the line.

Not even the best RB in the RMAC to be honest. He could be top 10 in D2, I've seen 2 better this season already though.
