Utah St hires new head coach.

Kind of anti-climatic could one say? Why the wait...curious that KSL TV Sports mentioned the rumor that Ben Howland had considered, then decided on Miss. St., & Tommy Connor (Utah assistant) was interviewed...brings up the question of him maybe going to Nevada? Hmmm...

Edit: Nevada has already hired LSU Asst. Eric Musselman...so Connor probably staying on as Assoc. HC at Utah.

Howland has a four-year contract that will pay an average of $2.05 million annually. Is there even 2 million dollars in the entire state of Mississippi? (to quote Chris Webber's dad) only byu can pay 2 million in the land of utah.

Shocking hire...I've gotta say I'll miss reading the Aggie forum. It was beyond comical and only getting funnier. So many theories, conspiracies and "inside" sources. I will admit it. I really thought that Tommy Connor was the guy. Don't know what to think about Tim. Can't be any worse than where they are now. Would be awfully hard to follow a legend. Gotta understand why it was so hard to get a coach.

Why is this such a "shocking" hire? He has been the top assistant at USU since Randy left. He has helped the Aggies build a very good program where they have had a lot of success. Lets all be honest, this is Logan after all. Who, outside of a handful of white Mormons, want to live in that valley? It is not the easiest place to recruit to and Tim has really done an outstanding job helping Stew to build Utah State Basketball into a destination program and a Mountain West contender. If Scotty Barnes would have hired someone else, I would have questioned his sanity (but then again if you watched his NCAA Selection Day interview, you could already do that. Wow, that was embarrassing). You have to give Tim a shot. I think it is a safe, albeit, conservative move by Utah State. I think Tim will continue the tradition that Stew has established. Is there a tremendous upside? Who knows. I don't think Tim will be able to do more than what Stew did, but I think he will be able to maintain Aggie success. With where Utah State is and in the conference the school is in, what else can the Aggie faithful really ask? They have to be realistic. The Aggies will never be on the same playing field, as some of their conference mates are on. Utah State is in Logan. It isn't the easiest place to travel to or the most open and inviting valley to live in all the time. I like it, but then again, I look like all the others up there.

After all the garbage (on other threads) about firing Rahe because he has had one bad year, how he can't win the big game, and how we should be the next Gonzaga, now we're telling USU fans to be realistic.
