Utah State and Beau Baldwin

I will support Coach B with whatever decision he makes in the future with regards to his career and honestly would want the best for him, because he's been our best coach probably since Dick Zornes - so I don't want any of our comments coming off the wrong way.

But with that said, I would really love to see this staff stick around for the next couple of years at least. I know that money has a lot to do with these decisions and that even with the success we've had and the potential to increase that success in the future we'll only be able to provide moderate increases in pay to our staff. Personally, I'd love for Coach to be a Jerry Moore type guy that sticks around and builds the program. App State is what it is largely because of Coach Moore, and it'd be awesome to see that replicated to some extent at EWU.

But if/when Coach B decides to move on I'd like to see the reigns handed over to someone within the program. I really feel like EWU has developed a really sound coaching tree. Maybe Best is the next guy, who knows...

On another note, does anyone know if Meyer is going to be a part of the full=time staff, or is he planning on going back to playing?

Ranger: is there any research out there concerning "how" Appy St. kept him for all those years? And who was sniffing or offering him deals when he was racking up 3 National Championships in a row? Do they have big time Boosters? Or did he realize he could be a big fish, in a small pnd?

He stayed at App State because of his age, I believe he is currently 73, which means when he was winning his championships he was in his late 60's early 70's. Not a lot of FBS schools are looking for a coach that old so I'm pretty sure the biggest reason App State kept him was because the FBS schools weren't coming after him as hard. Baldwin is only 40 , he keeps winning (which he will) the big boys will keep knocking...

I do think Baldwin stays a few more years, we also have some great coaches in the program as well that could take over...

I'm sure age had something to do with it, but remember that App State was a very succesful program even before Armanti Edwards, beating Michigan, and the Threepeat. And Moore coached there for a very long time, before he became an old man. He built the program into what it is today. I think that, in itself, was the primary reason he stayed until retirement. When you build something successful it's not always easy to hand it over to someone else. And maybe he was just happy there and didn't have any aspirations to move onto a "bigger" program.

I also know that he didn't want App to ever move to the FBS level. But now that he's out of the equation, it looks like they may finally make the move.

Anyway, lots of variables going on there, but I doubt it was just age.

i wonder how much consideration either party gave to the san jose and utah state jobs. i hope we can put away the runors for now and just focus on recruiting at this point in the season.
