Looking @ their board, some talking as a win over Weber, even up in Logan would be surprising.
What they don't realize is we are just as young with A couple JC's, & Soph's. Just better positioned. We also haven't won up in Cowtown since, what '93?

Truth be known, we're way too young to be challenging up in Logan. This really Shouldn't be the year.

So they had a slug of guys leave because they didn't like Stewboy, or they couldn't compete in the MWC, brings up my point being in the mighty MWC, with their practice facilities, and strong longtime bball program they should've crammed their roster with some real talent, right? They are at a huge advantage. We'll see I guess

Yup. December 7, 1993 was last tim we won in Logan. We have lost six of our last seven games against Aggies as well...

Winning in the Spectrum is a hard thing to do. I'd like to see a win up there this week, but I'm not sold on our team yet. Defense has to get better.

It's going to be a hard fought, defensive battle in Logan. The winner of this game will be the team that can have the most discipline and the least breakdowns on both ends of the floor. I think we can pull this off, if we can stay out of foul trouble. I hope we can get some fair officiating up there. :twocents:

Is this game on TV anywhere? KJZZ or something I hope...
It isn't on TV unfortunately but there is a free web stream that has improved in quality quite a bit the last couple of years. You will be able to watch the game here:

I don't have much confidence that Weber wins this one. Hope I'm wrong, but Weber just doesn't win in Logan or Provo and this team is so young. Thinking it's going to be a long OOC season, just like last season.

Agree! Especially the atmosphere at the Spectrum can become intimidating to the youngster's performance. But as Coach Rahe states, the experience of 10K (over 4K crazy for basketball students) screaming fans will be good in the long run. :twocents:

Man, that's too long! That must have been the game where Weber squandered a big lead and had to win it on a 40' heave by DeGraffenreid(sp?)-- about jumped through the ceiling on that "won".

Just a note since this has long been a problem in Logan for many teams.

The MWC crews (and I assume we'll get some form of them) aren't near as intimidated as the Big West crews who seemed to wet their pants in Cache County when the Aggie fans got out of control. After all, they officiate in The Pit, at Wyoming and even at UNLV. So 6,000 screaming and obscenely frustrated Cache kooks and their often surprisingly crude wives don't get to them -- not to mention the 4,000 drunkenly, profane and ill-behaviored students who don't quite (just barely) live up to the lowlifes they have to put up with at WYO.

Whether we win, or not, I would expect a better officiated game than in past years.

MWC officials will be OK. I'm just hoping we don't get BSC officials. They start peeing themselves at Jr High games.

I don't care about officials. There are a handful of good ones and a lot of really bad ones. Specially if we are talking about the glorified apes who officiate games for the Big Sky Conference.

Utah State, regardless of how down they are, will be a tough contest in Logan. They want to get the season going on the right foot and really need to take care of business in any games played in the friendly (most times too friendly) confine of the Spectrum. There should be a good crowd on hand, I doubt there will be anywhere near a sell-out, but nonetheless there should be a good crowd. Too bad for the Aggies. They left a weak basketball conference, somewhat strong football, and ended up joining a conference that is dismally weak in football but strong in basketball. Trying to compete against New Mexico, SDSU, and UNLV makes it tough on the other conference members. CSU, Donkey Jr. College, and Wyoming haven't been doing too badly lately either and of course Nevada and Fresno St. usually field fairly good teams. Tough conference to be a member of.

I'm going to do my best at player by player comparison.

PG Senglin vs. Perkins

Perkins was one of the top JC guards last year and Senglin was the top Freshman in the Big Sky last year. This is tough to call. Perkins has not looked good so far, but that is normal with JC players. I'm hoping he is still rusty come Friday. Senglin has been very good and has a year of D1 experience. Slight edge WEBER STATE.

SG. Golden vs. McGlaston

Golden has looked good in the 2 exhibition games so far, but still this is his first rodeo at the D1. McGlaston played very little last year. Word is he is a great athlete that has a good upside, but makes bad choices and not a great shooter. More of a slasher. Hard to call this one so I say EVEN.

SF. Gittens vs. Smith.

I think this will be a fun matchup. Gittens is the lock down defender and Smith is a great scorer and shooter. With Gittens having a year of D1 and this being Smith's first year out of JC, I'm going to say very slight edge for WEBER STATE.

PF. Hill vs. Moore.

Another good matchup. Both have one year of D1 experience and USU thinks Moore is their next great player. I thought he was decent last year, but nothing amazing. He is too skinny to be a legit PF. Hill is probably not at good as Moore on offence, but a better defensive player. This will be a fun match. Hard to call, but I'm going to say very slight edge for UTAH STATE.

Center. Bolomboy vs. Collette

Collette has looked good in their 2 exhibition games and so has Bolomboy. Bolomboy has 2 full years of D1 and Collette has 0. I don't think Collette can handle Joel down low. We will see. This is easy to pick. Edge. WEBER STATE.

Bench. Hajek, Hunter, Costen vs. Noma'aea, Jones, Harris

Neither bench is anything exciting. I say EVEN.

The game is being played in Logan which is tough even if USU is down. I wish it was in Ogden because I would say Weber wins by at least 10. Up in Cowtown, who knows? Its been since 1993 since Weber State won up there. Its got to happen eventually right? I'm going to predict a close, sloppy, low scoring game where Weber State wins by a score of 60-57.

I don't know what to expect from Utah State. They have had soooooo much turnover this last year, that it is really hard to make any sort of player projections and sense of their program. I do think they have talented athletes, but are they necessarily good basketball players? I don't worry too much about USU, they have Stew. His coaching is good for two or three wins a season no matter how bad the teams talent pool is. Purple made a good point. The conference move has really hurt USU basketball. The WAC wasn't the greatest basketball conference all the time. Yes, Fresno, Nevada, and New Mexico State caused the Aggies some problems, at times. But they were never all good at the same time like New Mexico, SDSU, and UNLV always are. The Mountain West is a far stronger basketball conference than what the former WAC once was. Purple, were you stabbing at the Aggies' football program? Saying that the MW isn't much of a football conference?

Wazzu...I like you effort though. It was a valiant attempt at trying to make some sense of the confusion that is USU basketball for the fans. We know a couple of things...we know that Collette and Moore are their go to guys this season. Collette has looked surprisingly good for just getting back from a mission and being only a freshman for the Ags. He could have a big career after all is said and done. Just want to point this out, he turned down a scholarship option to play at Weber to walk on at USU.

Thanks for pointing that out, all the more reason for Weber to smack him and the Aggies around Friday. I would absolutely love to see Rahe and the team really get up for in-state and show a true rivalry fight. Maybe it goes on more than appears publicly but the passion for beating their in-state brethren just doesn't seem to shine like it once did.

Most of the kids we are getting, out of Texas, have never even heard of USU, let alone Logan Utah. We might as well be playing Lower Slobovia as far as they are concerned.

Just sayin'.

Are you kidding? These guys are very aware. You can tell simply by listening to what they're saying about the in state rivals in interviews.

Also tell this to Kyndahl Hill who had an official visit to Utah State. Olds sometimes you post stuff like this, that really is old person, type of wacko. Like roaming the isles of Costco on every Free Sample Day week.

Weberski - What is wrong with free sample day at Costco? Any smart college student knows that is where you go for a free lunch.

Chill out, man. Didn't you notice the laughing faces. It's a joke, dude.

Besides, every day is free sample day at Costco.
