Okay...admittedly, I'm not the most excited about basketball right now. I'm a bit preoccupied with James Madison University for some reason. Regardless, this is a big instate battle. The Cats need to show up and play. This game is important. It is time to end the Utah County curse and finally get a win down there. uvu is a talented team, but definitely beatable. They are very inconsistent shooters. Dangerous yes, but inconsistent. No matter, this is an instate game and the Cats have to start out and play better basketball than last week. Also, this game will help the Cats get warmed up for playing in the Beehive Classic on Saturday against byu. Weber has too many weapons not to play at a high level and be competitive every single time they hit the floor. Last weeks start against Fresno was pathetic. If Weber plays up to their potential for 25 mins imagine a possible upset on a MW court. Instead we played slow on defense and turned the ball over 21 times. Our team wasn't prepared and adjustments were made very slowly by the coaches (to me it is proof that Randy needs better assistants, but I've only been saying that for three years now). I hope the Cats come out and play tough, tenacious defense, and really take it to the wolverines on offense. Go to a traditional inside/out type of game. We have the size and speed to do it.

Thanks for getting this thread started. I was starting to think it would fall to me and I often say too much. This might be the best team they have had a UVU, ever. I would love to see us win down there, but it will not be an easy task. We always get some very interesting officiating out of Utah County. Not quite as bad as Iron County used to be, but close. :wall:

My personal opinion is that UVU's "warmup" recipe is better than Weber's:

045 - UTAH VALLEY 5-3 (D1 Opp Avg RPI: 124)
-------------------------------------------
001 - L - at Duke
007 - L - at N Carolina
296 - W - at ISU
022 - W - vs UC Davis
n/a - W - vs Eastern Oregon
210 - W - at N Dakota
076 - L - vs BYU
257 - W - vs UT San Antonio

203 - WEBER STATE 4-3 (D1 Opp Avg RPI: 164)
-------------------------------------------
167 - W - vs Utah St
n/a - W - vs West Coast Baptist
152 - L - nn Iona
327 - W - nn James Madison
090 - L - nn Bradley
n/a - W - vs Black Hills St
084 - L - at Fresno St

UVU opened at Kentucky and Duke, no N. Carolina. But same idea.

You guys played them fairly tough until about 10 left in the game. What do you think about their program and the Cats chances tomorrow night?

By all means keep taking it right at the guy who continues to shove it down your throat. It was a nice touch to save the timeouts too, allowing a tie game to turn into a 14 pt halftime deficit in about 2 minute's time.

Awesome job by our coaching staff tonight. They made amazing adjustments at the right times and definitely made an impact on the game with everything original and new they were willing to employ. Loved how we did a great job of finishing at the rim and utilizing our strengths on defense by playing a 1-3-1 and 3-2 zone. We are long and lanky and UVU isn't the best at shooting 3s. Most important, it really limited their centers ability to get the ball and forced him to take shots outside of his range. Our pick and roll offense with all the cutters and excellent ball movement (very little standing around waiting for the ball) was something to behold. Great job by the team. This had the potential of being the most embarrassing loss in decades and I'm glad that Coach Rahe took it serious enough not to embarrass a fan base, alumni, and community by losing by 27. Good thing he took the time to update his offense and defense to create something original and fresh. Loved the effort tonight by our Cats. Can't wait to see how well they do against BYU on Saturday night. Looking forward to another super amazing effort from our team and amazing staff. Randy's schedule definitely gets his team ready to play DI games. Good thing he kept Gittens and Cannon around to ensure he had a team of veterans. L Give him another 8 and a raise Bovee!!

Must have been a hell of a game.

Randy Rahe is totally worth his $400,000 salary. How could anyone take a paycheck after a loss like tonight? Coach, time to give some back. You aren't worth what you're getting.

Sarcasm is a bit funny, so I'll be nice & say enjoy that next in-state beat down, courtesy of BYU, come Sat. fans!! If the math stands, it should be around a 30+ margin for the Cougars & Cannon, fun stuff, bet they'll smile about it.

Does anyone think maybe that OOC endeavor vs. the bigs helped the Wolverines prepare for the mighty Cougars?, apparently not, but the mighty Wildcats?, maybe so, though they apparently didn't need it.

The Utah County curse continues...even if it extends this time to Vivint Arena...Ugh!! :-(

It'll be alright, it usually takes 'till about January, for the young, inexperienced players to learn all the sets of Rahe's complex system. Anything before then is just to prepare for BSC play anyway. Tonight was just the dumb luck of running into a older, experienced team, but I like how we competed.

Dam... I really hope our Fball team wins tomorrow. It is going to be a long hoops season.

Has there ever been a more out of sink offensive team in the Rahe era? We have been going for a month now and the team chemistry looks worse than it did against USU.

Can someone please explain to me what coaching if any happened at half time? Add this to the same file as the other games where we make zero coaching adjustments but expect different results.

Tal, if I remember correctly, the last time WSU played down there and blew a 20 point halftime lead, we said at the time, it was the worst loss in WSU history. Well, this time for me at least, this is the worst loss of all time. This team is so hard to watch, and it starts at the top. Rahe is so comfortable here making his $500k salary, that he just goes with the flow. Why do we have so many flaws, like too many? How does Braxton get abused soooo bad in the post last night? We have no scoring threats on this team. Harding tries, but this team is only one dimensional. I am so sick and tired of Rahe coached teams. Ceiling has been reached years ago. For anyone that does not know how I feel about this, please see the threads, "Fire Rahe," and "Fire Rahe part II." We are in a dumpster fire and there is nothing that can put this mess out. I hate our OOC games and schedule so bad, that I have lost interest in the home schedule. The philosophy of playing these NAIA schools is not getting it done. I have seen many quality teams visit Big Sky gyms this season. Last night we had a two Big West and a Pac-12 team play in Big Sky Gyms. Meanwhile, we get the likes of West Coast Baptist. The scheduling of these terrible teams is not preparing us for teams like UVU or even Idaho State. Look at what PSU and UVU is doing, after playing some of the top teams. Can Bovee please cut Rahe's salary in half, and give it to the new big man on campus, Jay Hill? Thank heaven the football team is doing well this year, or else my WSU pride would be missing for awhile. At least the real season starts next month, when our RPI is 250+, we the players have had time to learn 500+ sets, and they have had time to play "togetherness." I am so tired of the same results year after year, in OOC play. :wall: :wall: :wall: If I had time or cared to look it up, there is no way that Rahe in 12 years in even close to .250 in OOC DI games. The stubbornness and lack of change or ability to adapt to each game, has me going nuts. I swear, if Rahe could choose between making halftime adjustments to win a game, he rather not and take the loss, than do some dang coaching. His attitude towards these in-state games, and OOC games has me pissed. Hopefully we picked up Cannon on our way back, as I see us losing by 30+ on Saturday, and that is being generous. We are going to get mopped up and down the floor. For those of you going down tot the game, I am so sorry. Maybe we should let UVU replace us in this tournament going forward, as UVU has totally overtaken WSU in regards to Bball. Such a sad reality that is.... And to end this rant, going into the game Saturday, Rahe's all-time record vs in-state schools updated: BYU (0-11, soon to be 0-12), USU (4-10), UVU (4-3), U of U (2-4), for a combined record of.....10-28 or a whopping 0.357 record... Please have mercy on us BYU......

This.... The epitome of Randy Rahe in a nutshell... Every DI coach in America knows our offense, and knows we do not make any halftime adjustments. With Rahe, you stick to a game plan even if that means losing. "we have to stick to the game plan, and keep grinding...."

I don't post over here very often, but when I woke up and saw the score in the Standard, I was sick to my stomach. Is our administration really okay with losing to UVU by 27? I'm an older guy, but even during the Farmer and Houston eras our team had pride and refused to get whitewashed by an instate team, and those teams were the Y, U, and USU. This is UVU we are talking about.
