UVU to the WAC? (MAY 26 Trib Article)

This means the WAC will take anyone that will come so it can stay in business. If we were to leave for the WAC in basketball only the WAC would roll out the red carpet for us.

No point in moving basketball only. The Big Sky has an auto bid into the tourney, like the WAC. This makes no sense for basketball.

I would much rather see Weber get an invite if USU stays. However if they are in the MWC the Big Sky will be a better conference. What are your thoughts on this?

Wow...I have now lost all respect for the Tribune. Whoever wrote this story is a real idiot. Do they really expect the WAC to still be alive next week? USU wants to be seen on the same level as UVCC, Texas State, and Denver? Who is next on the WAC's short list?? Elko Community College, Dixie State (I just read the the Board of regents are thinking of making Dixie into a university...Wow, whomever is in charge of the BOR probably needs to retire...most idiotic idea yet. SUU is dying, that would be its death knell), or Fran Browns College of Aesthetics? As of next Wednesday, once USU and San Jose officially are introduced as MWC members, the WAC will officially cease to exsist. UVU is an embarrassment to the state. Another wise decision by the Board of Regents on that one. It should have never become a university...hell a college.

UVCC!! HA!! That is hilarious. Why would the state want another university in St. George when they already have a major university in Cedar?? That makes absolutely no sense. Is the population really growing that much in that area of the state? If it is, is the population college age, or is it a bunch of retirees? Last I checked St. George was mostly old retirees. Are they wanting to go back to school?

As for UVSC getting into the WAC, that is proof to where the WAC is headed. Maybe Bensen should see if Longmont and NJ Tech want in to the WAC. Maybe Simon Fraiser or US Virgin Islands is interesed? Has he checked Mexico for some possible additions?

The Big Sky, once IDAHO joins, lol, will be a very strong conference. I'm sure that UVU is looking at joining the Sky as much as they are interested in joining the WAC. They don't care, as long as they go somewhere.

dont get the hate on uvu. you sound like a byu/utah/usu fan talking down to weber.

uvu even discussing the WAC means usu wont be there. there is no chance USU would allow UVU as a member. but if usu leaves the wac then i dont see why uvu cant join. the wac will be rated lower than the big sky by then anyway.

I think the WAC is struggling to survive and will add any school that wants to join. That being said, I like the expansion within the Big Sky, with possibilities of growth. There is just not much alternative structure in the western US. the Pac 12 and WCC are not looking to add, Big West is focused mostly on CA schools, MWC may add schools (like USU) that they feel are at their level in most sports. That leaves the BSC in a solid place to be THE western small/mid major conference with flexibility to expand as opportunities occur, not for survival.

I don't get it either. Utah County absolutely needed a public university, and UVU has served that need well. UVU has become the biggest university in the state. And it's history and purpose is almost identical to Weber's. There is no reason for a Weber student, grad, or fan to look down on UVU. Doing that would be very Aggie like. And as for USU getting a MWC invite, don't hold your breath. At least not until they can improve their football program substantially. The MWC doesn't want another mouth to feed, especially a mouth that brings little more than a regionally successful men's basketball team.

Another article about this:

And by the way, seeing how the Aggies are acting here, it makes me proud of the way Weber always supported SUU in getting into the Big Sky.

"UVU officials believe USU standing in way of WAC invitation"

Interesting article

UVU:
"Other people in the WAC tell me that if Utah State would support us … we would get in," Utah Valley athletic director Michael Jacobsen told The Salt Lake Tribune on Wednesday. "We don’t think that we’re getting that support."

USU:
"That’s a bunch of B.S.," Albrecht said. "There’s nothing to block. We haven’t even met yet. People have been getting way ahead of themselves on the issue, and it’s unfortunate. Until we meet in June, there’s really nothing to talk about. The notion that we wouldn’t want to compete for recruits is completely untrue. Give me a break. We’ve competed for decades against Utah and BYU, and we’ve done quite well."

there is 0 chance of UVU getting in the WAC as long as USU is there. usu will let the wac ship sink before allowing in UVU. i am not saying uvu should not be allowed to join, afterall denver and texas state are in that conference. i would rather see weber joining as a basketball only if the conf didnt die than seeing uvu in.

If the WAC is looking to add other non-football conference members, how long before the WAC is a no football conference???? Just something to think about. :geek:

BYU along with Utah State will be against Utah Valley joining the WAC. This would make UVU equal to BYU in basketball and BYU would be expected to play UVU which they never do and will not. BYU is an affiliate member of the WAC now so it will not be all WAC members for UVU except for USU, add BYU to that list.

 UVU joining the WAC would not make them equals with BYU. And BYU will only play softball in the WAC. They have absolutely no say in expansion.

Basketball: WAC = WCC

WCC more top heavy but bottom half worse than the new WAC

WOW.

UVU to the WAC???? Really????

If the WAC does that, will the NCAA require them to drop to the DII or DIII level???

Or, maybe that is what the WAC has had in mind all along!
