The PAC/MWC Dominoes Begin to Fall

Yes.. I read that PAC presidents are at a hotel in San Ramon discussing Media Deal options as well as potential expansion targets.

According to what I’ve read.

PAC TV deal projected to be mostly streaming? ESPN or Maybe PAC12 Network App which isn’t preferred vs St’d broadcast networks like FOX,

But money is very important. The range $8-10M per school is projected.

If I were Luke wood with CSU Trustees connections I’d be requesting Fresno & San Diego St to support cousin CSU to join. It’s good to have travel geographically to reduce expenses when possible.

I’m expecting some media leaks before Friday (Rumors).

Hopefully they recognize they should add SAC ST.

IMO $8-10M won’t get Memphis / Tulane Etc.

The PAC media deal is good news for our situation. I don't see any of the top tier AAC schools bailing for west coast travel for the amount being floated. After travel expenses it would probably be a push at best.

The ASI legislation is interesting. Based on the tweet, seems like nothing binding (at this time) but highlights a lot of the positives/opportunities FBS would bring to the university so it seems like more of a general show of support.

On a interesting note, Coach Christiansen landed the top HS baseball pitcher in the region. He and his staff have landed quality local players before, but the WAC will likely not exist after this season so it's hard to see such a high rated baseball talent go to a potentially homeless baseball program. The PAC will need baseball playing members to ensure that it is a viable baseball conference. Could be something, could be nothing but that commitment caught my eye.

Dr. Wood mixing it up with Twitter personalities again. Feeling fiesty

A lot of rumblings going on following this PAC-12 summit over the last few days.

Rumors that the PAC-12 is actively reviewing Sac States "application".

The MWC felt the need to release a statement reassuring that the conference is strong.

Interesting times.

These two tweets back to back seem to be related.
Breadcrumbs baby.

Shouldn’t be too challenging to review a one page document.

Why wouldnt the same folks providing $57M in NIL help provide funds to make the $5M NCAA reclassification payment?

Why not the full $5M and only half?
The simple and most honest answer is that money never existed. It's all smoke and mirrors to try to get fan interest and money. Doesn't seem to be working. Looked like about 500 in attendance at your last home BB game. The Sacramento SMSA, although large, has less than .0001 % Hornet fans. That will not help get any sort of media contract boost.

NIL is contingent upon PAC. My guess is sharing the burden of the $5M puts skin in the game for everyone to make this happen.

Speculation on social media is that Dr. Wood's call with Charlie Baker was to finalize approval of an exemption and Indy run in FBS for 2-3 years before going to the PAC or MWC. This would mean a road heavy FBS schedule essentially acting as game check mercenaries while our new stadium is built. In fact, it might let them demo and build faster if we only have 4-6 home games in total over two years (could play at Hughes, or Sutter Health park after baseball season....

SAC12 has said they believe they can get most of the NIL commitment no matter which league they join.

But yes, the smart thing to do is to make sure everyone has skin in the game and give them a voice. Getting ASI on board is smart.

“We’ve looked at a combination of an affiliate conference for football and something else. We’ve also looked at all of our sports being in one conference,” Wood said. “We’ve looked at revenue-generating sports being in one conference and non-revenue-generating sports being in another.”

Wood said that his focus is to have Sac State in a position to play teams on the West Coast, in the interest of shortening student athlete’s travel schedules as much as possible.

Wood said the school hopes to announce its move to the FBS in the coming months.

“Our hope is either February or March, but at the very latest April,” Wood said. “If I was a betting man, I would say, more likely to be the earlier part of that timeline, not the latter.”
