UW game plan vs EWU

UCONN and also some teams back in the 80's......

But back on topic, the more I think about this, with the advantage UW will have with their defensive line, I tend to think we will try to spread them out. We'll need BLM to have some solid decision making. It will be interesting to see how they deal with Kaufman. With our primary receivers all 6'3 or taller I think we'll actually match up ok with UW's secondary.

I think we can move the ball on UW if we can control their D-Line, I think our biggest concern is stopping their O, if we can limit them on Offense, we will have a shot. Looking at most of the FCS wins over FBS schools, they tend to be low scoring games.

And in particular how well our linebackers fill in order to stop the run game. We did have a lot of practice at that in the NC game when the Gamehens had HUGE line splits and their back were almost walking through holes for 2 1/2 qtrs. And I would think UW will be trying to use their speed and going side to side to gain the corner.

D-line is supposed to be the team strength this year, so I don't see you controlling them. With Ta'amu in the middle and Jamora/Shirley on the edge, I think you got your hands full.

Interesting. If I were Sarkisian, I wouldn't risk playing Polk against a team they should beat. Looks like Jesse Callier could get the start if they keep Polk out. They also have Bishop Sankey from Gonzaga Prep and Fogerson, although he hasn't played much being hurt most of last season.

I think they might also be missing a starting CB and Safety for this one. Not sure how much it matters though, since if UW gets a good lead early on a lot of those guys wouldn't see much PT anyway. But as I have said before, I think we match up "ok" with them with our skill position players.....I think the big thing is going to be their DL. As PR has mentioned, it should be their strength this year.

To be honest, the biggest thing I am worried about in this game is breaking in two new starting CB's. I don't think people realize how much having two Senior CB's starting last year helped us get where we went. I mean, Hoffman is competing for a spot with the Seahawks....so yeah, those are big losses.

Ranger, I'm disappointed in you. Between your posts here and on some of the other boards, you appear to be pandering to the Husky fans (no offense intended!) I really believe that we can win this one. Their D-line may be good, but our O-line-- Chris Powers, Gabe Jackson, Will Post and Forgette carrying on the proud tradition of wearing the #70 jersey at left guard :D -- is phenomenal. Two All Americans on the line?!?! There is also a ton of depth there.

If BLM and his receivers are on point and Renard and the Johnsons and co. on the other side bring the heat, I think good things will happen.

I could care less what the UW fans think. All I was saying is *if* they get a big lead, then I would imagine they would pull some of those guys. "If", not "when". :D Although who knows, it seems like Cal kept a lot of their starters in when we played them in 2009, to include their starting QB. Sarkisian, I think, is a little classier than that....so all I am saying is that if it got into that type situation some of those guys wouldn't play much anyway.

In reference to their D-Line, well.....it is going to be one of the strengths of the UW defense. That's all I was saying. I wasn't dissing our O-line or anything like that. We'll have one of the better O-Lines in the Big Sky this year.

Also, just for the record, I do think we can win this game. It's just that the odds are stacked heavily against us. Montana was the last Big Sky team to beat a Pac-10 team in 1995. That was the year Dave Dickenson won the Payton Award, I believe, and Montana the National Championship. Also, that was a horrible Oregon State team.

With Polk getting his knee scoped yesterday he may not be playing against us. I was told for sure he was going to play against us to pad his stats...

Is your Hoffman related to Dave from the 90's dawgs?

Some updates on the team from Friday:
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/huskyfootballblog/2015962434_post_89.html

Polk is taking it easy until next week and Qrich is ahead of schedule on his ankle rehab.

And the reports about the WR's lead me to believe your green corners will have a long day:

-- Williams had maybe the highlight play of the night, a 70-yard TD when he leaped to make a high catch of a Nick Montana pass and then split the defense to run into the end zone. Austin Seferian-Jenkins also had his requisite 2-3 standout plays, causing Sarkisian to say: "You saw Kasen again tonight - that was about a 70-yard touchdown. About every other day, or every third day, he has a big one.

I'm not sure about Dave Hoffman, but Jesse, was from Shorecrest HS, and set many records as a running back.

You are spot on about Williams, he is a special player, three and half years from now he will be a very high first round pick. He's got game. It will be fun to see how Skyline's Williams matches up with West Seattles TJ Lee, Franklins Jeremy Chaten, Tumwaters Matt Johnson, Foss' Allen Brown, and Ferris' Jeff Minerly.

I love watching kids from Washington play.

Took a visit over to the dawgman site today. :ohno: Some of them are actually predicting anywhere from 50-70 point blow-outs or equating this game to playing some HS. If we get beaten that badly, we are just not that good a football team, plain and simple. But in reality I think they're going to be a little surprised by a roster full of tough Washington kids that are going to be way fired up for this game. If we weather the storm early and play some sound mistake-free football, we can win this one. Washington is a very young team, despite all the talent they have.

No surprise there are some that predict the ridiculous but those are the whack jobs most boards deal with. Many know that we will be a worthy opponent and I know players/coaches are not thinking this will be a blowout. Most know that an FBS team is usually deeper due to scholarships and what that means vs an FCS team. They also realize we have talent/size /speed and strength as we are in the top of the FCS and National Champions. Some swallowed pretty hard thinking Polk may not play...we shall see.

whether or not Polk plays isnt whats going to win or lose the game for us. We all saw last season that one player does not make a team so the team just needs to worry about executing their game plan and not about whether Chris Polk plays or not. From what I have read it was a very minor surgery and he could very well play. In that case he can be introduced to Johnson and Johnson.
