Vandal Fans Say Montana Isn’t Their Rival

Interesting Idaho factoid, in the new millennium, Idaho has only one win against a major conference team, and that happened in 2000 vs Washington State. Despite playing 1-3 games per year against Power 5 teams (and you could even include Western region powers BYU and Boise State- neither of whom they've beaten since 2000), they have only one win. They really have no credibility when thinking they are a legit FBS program. There are a lot of FCS program with far better records against top programs than them.

Incidentally, in that 18 season span, they only had a couple of games that were inside of a 10 point spread. Most were total blowouts, including several 50+ point blowouts. WSU blasted them tin their last bowl season, 56-6 two weeks after Eastern went into Pullman and beat them.
Thank you for the facts!

Say what you will about the Vandals FBS experience, I think they'll be competitive in the Big Sky. Although I don't, perhaps, see them in the top 3 teams in the conference this year, they're going to win some games. Steady improvement over time will see their program in a much better place than they were as a perennial cellar dweller that plays in a conference with geographical footprint nowhere near the west coast.

Idaho belongs in the Big Sky. What their athletic programs and boosters choose to make of that reality will set the tone for their success (or lack thereof) over the next few years.

All Vandal fans who I know in real life are thrilled to be back in the Big Sky. Many Vandal fans who post on the 24/7 board still want to be FBS. I can’t wait for the upcoming season and both EWU and Montana are our rivals. Due to history I put the Montana rivilary as more important, but the rivalry with Eastern is still important and due to geography will grow in intensity over he next ten years. I was at the 2003 game when Eastern won 8-5. It still stings. I was happy and jealous when I watched Eastern win its national championship. I wished it could have been Idaho. Good luck this season. I look forward to watching Eastern’s high powered offense take on Idaho’s defense on your ugly turf. It will be a great game.

Go Vandals!

Don't throw stones when you live in the Kibbie Dome. :-)

Edub, so very true. Think he felt it was job to put that in his/her post cause the rest was pretty solid. They, like us, probably have never heard a single complimentary thing from opposing schools on our fields. I would have been disappointed had he/she not thrown that in...lol.

Petrino has proven to be a solid coach with a very tough assignment the last few years and has enough talent to contend. Would expect the relatively short trips for games this season to offset any disappointment to being back in the FCS. That said, Go Eags.
