Very early 2012-2013 BSC rankings

I'd put Sac higher...YES I said that.

1. UM
2. Weber
3. Eastern
4. Sac
5. Montana State
6. UNC
7. PSU
8. UND
9. SUU
10. ISU
11. NAU

Sac just signed 3 JCs and a 6'4'' frosh form their neiborhood. None of them were heavily recruited. Although, that doesn't mean much. The JCs were a point guard and two bigs, 6'6''/230 & 6'8''/230. I didn't see any stats on them. They were only missing a piece or two from being really good. This could be the year when they finally get something done. Or, they could be a flash in the pan again. :twocents:

I think right now everything 3-6 is very fluid.

UNC has a lot of offensive talent... but we have to see if they get any better defensively, and whether their frontcourt has enough depth.

Sac State has a chance... of the guys they signed, Jordan Salley looks solid, but he is more of a wing than a true big man. They signed a true big man with a really long name... but he scored less than 5 PPG last year and shot 43% from the floor in juco... he will be a rotation guy at best. Mostly I just don't trust Katz yet, he hasn't really proven anything.

MSU has had a really nice recruiting period... if Blount-Stewart-Biglow are all there to start the year, they have as much talent on paper as anyone in the conference, including Montana/WSU... but of course, having talent at the start of the year has never really been the Bobcats problem.

Eastern could be good, but they are so unproven. I think eventually (if Hayford stays) they will get to the point that Montana and WSU are at, where you pretty much have to count them in the conference race every year, but don't think they are there quite yet.

North Dakota could jump up there... signed a couple JUCO bigs this week which was huge... they have talent, they just had about the thinnest frontcourt in America, which was helped somewhat. Going to Grand Forks will not be an easy roadtrip for anyone.

MSU always seems to be having a nice recruiting period, but the problem remains: HUSE. His teams fall apart, predictably, every year. Losing the best player on your team and hoping to replace him with a spring JC isn't exactly a step in the right direction, and now losing Fall...things aren't looking too good for the Cats. Steady stream of JC recruits isn't the way to build a program.

Yes, I know it is borderline insanity putting Sac so high, based on their tradition of "excellence" , but how they ended last season, who they have coming back, and the possibility that their talent level will develop and becomes deeper...how can't you put them higher? You can't base everything upon historical achievements, or in Sac's case, lack there of, but on what they have and what is possible. The rest of the Sky has been down, and should be down again next year. Yes, I'm hoping, as, I'm sure all Big Sky fans, that the Sky's overall RPI will improve and the conference will be better next year, which after last season, shouldn't be to hard to do.  :kisswink:

I can see why you think MSU will be subpar next year, they still have Huse. I don't mind the guy personally, but he isn't much of a coach. He does a pretty good job recruiting, but if you can't get the team to gel then having all the talent in the world can't help you. Huse really struggles developing team chemistry, and I don't see how any current or new players are going to help.

Sac? Seriously? Didn't they lose 8 straight games to start the conference season last year? How are they suddenly going to become a conference contender? Is Hayford really as good as billed? Didn't we all think Eastern would be good last year? With all the talent, senior leadership, and a solid recruit they still underachieved. I don't think a bunch of foreigners will help the issue any. I can't see how the Sky is getting any better. You can tell which programs are the healthiest, the ones getting fall recruits. If you have to wait till Spring, you are in deep trouble. I do agree with you on one thing. Recruiting JC's, especially in the Spring, isn't the best way to build your program. Yes, you can get lucky. USU does ever so often, and I think Stew is hoping this year will be better than last year. Weren't the Aggies saying they had the greatest JC recruits last year too. Hmmm...guess they were exaggerating. Might be a bit of that occurring this year too. :dunce:
