The spear was the most common weapon of the Viking warrior. Spears consisted of metal heads usually on wooden shafts of two to three meters in length. The heads could measure between twenty centimeters and sixty centimeters, with a tendency towards longer heads in the later Viking age. Spear heads with wings are called krókspjót (barbed spear) in the sagas. Some larger-headed spears were called hoggspjót and could also be used for cutting.

The spear was used both as a throwing weapon and as a thrusting weapon. They were used one-handed just as well as two-handed, if not better (the shield could be slung to the back to free the left hand).

I think he means the current logo on the helmet. It does look like a motorcycle helmet with horns.

BTW, as an historian, Vikings never had helmets with horns nor wings like Hager The Horrible has in the newspaper comic section.

I hope that we keep the Viking logo on the helmet, it defines us well.

It's confusing to me. It looks like there's a face shield (hence the motorcycle reference). It makes no visual sense. I'd rather see the viking head caricature on the goviks site than that one. My 2 cents.

I have no problem with the current helmets, but I do agree that if they were going to change, adding the Vik head alternate logo would be the way to go.

They look like the football version of the 1970's San Diego padre uniforms. Not impressed with the new "P" Nike developed for UofP either. I hope the Viks new uni's break the trend /users/31/07/37/smiles/645213.gif

I love Brown and Yellow! Brown is good color on a uniform! Just the shade of yellow or gold that's been the problem.
