I'll be happy just with beating Montana and stuffing all that Griz arrogance back in their faces. We've got the talent and we have them here. Let's get them. :thumb:

Montana certainly do come off as arrogant asses. Their wins are pyrrhic when it comes to the university's social reputation in athletics competition. I think it may be rooted in a rape mentality culture.

I guess we could counter their offensiveness by reminding them of their team's recent sordid past as Rape U. Or would that be too strong of medicine for those living in denial? One wonders whatever became of those perpetrators we heard about just a few scant seasons ago.

Now, tragically, a more recent case has taken place and was reported November 4, 2014 and is being reported by 60 Minutes Sports on Showtime:

This has got to stop. Want attendance at the Montana game? Bring in a crowd of angry women to yell at them. Bring in pastors shouting repentance to them. Montana rape-arrogance is a true social disease.

Have these same groups praise the PSU players for their comparative social justice.

Frankly, it'd be nice if Bruce Barnum were to become a P.T. Barnum insofar as college football is concerned. Maybe he should hire someone named Bailey to serve as an associate head coach.

A few thoughts on Barnum's comments:

“Portland State football isn’t about Bruce Barnum. I’m just the head coach. I’m the one assigned right now by this university to put a product on the field that everybody is proud of and enjoys watching.”

Totally agree here. This is the bottom line and something I rarely heard from Burton.

“I’m looking right now at a Division I (FBS or FCS) opponent with a home-and-away tradeoff or another money game against a (higher) level (opponent),” Barnum said. “But I don’t think that’s the route to go. At the end of the year, people are going to look at the win-loss record, see me as the interim one year guy and make the easiest evaluation for anybody outside the program. If I go 4-7, they’ll say ‘Enough of that’ regardless of what I did with the budget or saving Portland State football. They don’t care. They’re going to look at the wins and losses. It’s a fine line.”

Bullshit here. Most realistic fans have been judging performance based on Big Sky record. Not on records vs. FBS teams. Sounds like he is going to schedule some lower division team to pad his record. So he is contradicting himself after posturing about doing what is best for the university and then talking about scheduling an opponent that does nothing for the good of the program.

We already have 2 BCS games next year so tacking on a third loss before starting the league season would make a winning record tough. Have you seen the schedule already? We play all the top Big Sky teams but no weak teams besides N. Colo. Without a drastic improvement, getting more than 3-4 wins will be really tough.

I agree though that we should play 2 BCS schools every year. Yes, its tough on the schedule but we need the money and it will make us better able to compete with these teams over the long run. 3 in a transition year is a tough road to hoe however.

You're damned if you do and damned if you don't, re scheduling D-II teams. Probable win, no money. With FBS, probable loss, but money. For many years Montana scheduled D-II opponents. People grumbled, but it didn't keep them out of the play-offs. The real problem with scheduling FBS (aside from finding one that will play with us) is fourth quarter injuries as the extra 20 scholarships grind us down. The coach has got to worry about that.

The budget may demand another FBS.
