Our first home match was tonight against UP, which we lost 1-3. Our team this year is built on freshmen with a few sophomores and juniors tossed in. It showed - lot of raw talent, but the team's just beginning to pull together. We took the first set easily, then collapsed in the second. The next two were close, but not close enough. Predictably, the junior transfer Patti Anae took the leadership role with kills, but there were freshmen right behind her. Everyone played except Mullen - injury? Erin was the lead setter - she played most of the matches last year.Copple backed her up and did well. Sarah Brennan has a lot of potential but didn't look good tonight. A freshman who looked like a freshman. She'll get better as the year progresses. `For a team made up of Freshmen and sophomores, we're looking pretty good.
More matches on Saturday.

A great weekend for PSU athletics, with a soccer win over Hawaii, football win over WSU, and two first wins for volleyball, over Nevada and Grand Canyon. In volleyball the freshmen are coming on strong with Linden and Mullen leading the way in kills. Newcomer Copple supplements Clark well - same number of assists (17-18) but Clark had something like 18 digs while Copple had 3. On the other hand Copple had 3 blocks and Clark had none. They'll learn from each other.

Volleyball team is beginning to shape up - beat Weber State 3-2 and we're now standing 1-2 in the Big Sky. Playing as many freshmen as we are, it's not surprising the coaches have us coming in 6th. Lots of errors, weak blocking. But the core is good - Clark and Copple are doing fine as setters, and Mullen is piling up the kills. Anyone know why Brennan isn't playing?
