Lost to Santa Clara 0-3 and a rough loss to San Jose State 2-3 :(

We're beginning to see some patterns now, though there's still some inconsistency. In the Santa Clara match we seemed to play 5-1, and it didn't do much good. Santa Clara's good, ranked very high nationally. Schlatter and Rosendale seemed to be off their game, but that's allowed, seeing as how Schlatter has been mostly splendid (a redshirt freshman, no less!) and Rosendale as a sophomore has slid into the lineup very effectively after not playing much at all last year. San Jose was frustrating. They're not very good. Rosendale, Schlatter and especially Hamilton did well, but we had trouble putting SJS away; we were up by seven or eight, but almost lost set 4, and in set 5 we were up 14 to 10 and still let it get away. That last run is crucial; we've got to work on it. Freshman Olden came in and actually did quite well. On the whole we did well for pre-conference. Still way too many errors, but that will iron out by conference time. Phillips, for all her kills, grabs a depressing number of errors.

The SJS game was definitely depressing. I watched the live stats starting on set 2, and it was killer to watch us go from 14-8 in set 5 to 14-16. SJS isn't very good and was only 1-6 so far this season. Hopefully we come out looking for blood today against Cal State Northridge...

Yeah, that fifth set was infuriating. Let's hope we won't do that again (though we probably will). I was really impressed at how well Olden did, coming in as a true freshman. It's good that Geving is playing all the freshmen. We've got three solid seniors, but the team as a whole looks young and they need the experience. We'll do fine in confrence - Hamilton and Zielke, Phillips and Rosendale witrh Schlatter setting (backed by Kristinikova in the 6-2 setup) and Vilalpando and Bateham trading libero. Where's Bateham, by the way? She didn't play against Santa Clara or SJSU. Is she hurt?

She got hurt in the Oregon game. Looked like something to do with her hip. Hopefully she is fine and they are just resting her.

We just beat Cal State Northridge 3-0. Scores were 25-18, 25-19 and 25-22.
