vs UC Davis Game Day Thread

Fairly similar season stats, big difference for the Eagles is we have a different QB than we started with.
Eagles average 40.44 points per game allowing 21.11 points
Davis average 43.11 points per game allowing 26 points.
One big intangible is coaching. Dan Hawkins will possible be the best HC the Eagles come against in FCS. And because of our QB change the Eagles are somewhat in flux whereas the Aggies are the same as they have been all season. EB3 can expect to see every bad thing that happened in Ogden to happen this week... and more. Will he be ready?
How much will our game plan change from that difficult game in Ogden?

I think the major change is we switched from Barriere running the Gubrud offense to Barriere running the Barriere offense. Expect fewer deep balls, lots of quick hitters, and lots of RPO and read option stuff.

The one good news about losing Gubrud is it allowed us to turn the page and put the yoke on Barriere and let him pull the cart. He's certainly risen to the challenge the last two weeks.

Man, I know you're excited for the coming contest but you never get all the way around the corner...

EB3 can expect to see every bad thing that happened in Ogden to happen this week... and more.
Bullshit. Aggies defense is comparable to Weber's defense? That 4 straight starts and a good road win this week don't change the equation or show growth with EB3? You're comparing playing on the Inferno to playing on the road in Ogden? That the special teams will break down? That Aggies will stop the run? Come on.

Let's not make this all about the QB. Coaching is definitely going to matter in this one. Defensive play is going to matter. OL play is going to matter. WR play is going to matter. Kicking is going to matter.

Think we can agree on these assumptions and facts about EB3 though, this will be EB3's fifth start in a row, he will be getting all the prep, he knows he is the starter and understands what's at stake. No one is calling EB3 a savior, we all miss GG, but he is the face of the offense now. Don't hear anyone saying he doesn't have the physical tools. It's up to Reeder to make sure he's ready.

Since clawman is out front on this one, maybe make this the prediction or game day thread Ranger.

Watch most of the UC Davis vs NAU game and UC Davis is good(good athletic team to be sure) but susceptible clearly to the run. Offense is good as is our defense and we get em at home.
NAU not that good but rolled up almost 400 yards of offense on them. 320 yards rushing...320! NAU just couldn't finish with with their #3 QB playing.
If our defense plays like they have been playing and our oline is healthy enough to make our run game successful this is ours to win.
We are at home which clearly is a big advantage...I like it.

I liked how he pulled it down and ran at UNC when there wasn't something he liked downfield. Way better than sacks. He didn't do that at Weber. Seems he's growing into the position and hoping the coaches are helping create the best situation for his skills... whatever those are. ;-)

Howdy from Davis fellas. Looking forward to a good game next Saturday. It’s exciting that this game has both league championship and playoff implications. I’ll be traveling up there for the game. Any suggestions for restaurants or “must do” items during the weekend? Ill be staying in Spokane.

The Aggies this season are very resilient. This is certainly the best team we have had since the D2 days. The Eagles have been the dominant force in the league (and nation) for many years. I have to give you guys a slight advantage bc of the home field advantage. Should be a fun day!

This can be the game day thread. I like the separate and distinct prediction thread. :thumb:

EB3 is developing into a reliable college level quarterback though he hasn't developed eyes in the back of his head, the automatic tenth of a second ticking timer, or an automatic sense of anticipated then adjusting to actual developing player/field dynamics. Soon with playing experience, he'll be a tenth of a second early and a step ahead taking the best action first and immediately, without conscious thought and need to correct -most of the time.

Every week I think I know a little more about football but in actuality All of you on here forgot more about football than I really know. However you don't have to look far to see the Pride and respect of this football team, just look at the home field record over the last decade! Coach Best is like a 11-B Airborne 1st. Sgt. This is not just a big home game, their are 28 Seniors playing their last regular season home game on the Inferno. I am confident Coach Best will have those front seven led by 99, 90, 59, and 40 fired up ready to set the tone for the game, its going to be fast and physical! Good Luck Eagle Nation Youall have inspired me to be a Fan of such a great football program!!! Lets hear that 105 howitzer Rocking!

If Davis does what Weber did, man defense with blitzes coming from all over, how does Eastern counter that?

RUN!

Also I think we've already seen a subtle shift in play calling after the Weber game to more screens and short passes to combat the film everyone sees of the blitz being an Achilles's heel.

Like former said...run. But you also start working the screens and quick hitting slants as well in my opinion.

Winner of this game probably earns a top 4 seed, loser most likely ends up in the first round playing San Diego. I would guess EWU/UCD End up in a rematch in round two of the playoffs as well…

I like slants to work the middle of the field. Their LB's make a lot of their sacks. Eag's haven't worked the middle very often this season. Of course, WR's have to make catches and not pop them up. OC and EB3 have had 2 games since Weber, so it's really rear view mirror now.
