I just noticed that Des Ramos is not on the roster for this season. What happened to her? I thought she was the best player on our team. To be honest, I am not going to miss her family members yelling F-bombs and obscenities this year. But I did like how she attacked on offense and defense.

How much of a leash does Beth Ord have this year? What will be considered progress?

Our ladies team shares many of the same advantages that our Mens team enjoys. Why can't our ladies be a power like our men are?

Much like FB this season, although the W/L doesn't reflect well, I think the women's BB team turned a corner last season. The mostly JR team this year should be able to turn the more competitive play last year into wins this year. Don't know about Ramos but she's one tough gal.

The Standard ran two nice articles about the sucess of the nationally acclaimed cheer squad-- better late, than never-- I'd be interested in similar coverage for the lady's BB program. The better following for all sports, the better for the school in many ways. Some don't get that.

I'm not sure women's BB is too different from the age-old struggles of the FB program. Weber has always played second fiddle to the other in-state schools with recruiting and hasn't always had the strongest of coaches/recruiters. Success builds success right? Well, Weber hasn't had much to build upon and when they do have a little success they need to be in a coaching/recruiting position to capitalize.

I'm not sure if Ord is a coach worth keeping but this year should speak volumes about her ability to change this program since her recruits have now matured and should be capable of executing her system.

They are all Ord's recruits now. There are no hold overs from the previous staff on the team this year.

This will be a revealing year.

I liked most of Ramos' game, but there were aspects that were disturbing to me. I don't think that she was the best options as a point guard. It looks like they have many more options this year. I don't know if they will prove to be better, but I don't think they will be worse.

Cleaning up the turnovers will be a key to their success. :twocents:

I was under the impression that last year the team was 100% Ord's players? For Ord to keep her job, it will take an absolute miracle. She will need to win the Sky or have a very successful year to keep her job.

I think you're right or it was very close to 100%, however, dang near 100% of them were Sophmores, too, with a Freshwomen or two thrown in. It's pretty tough for a relatively new coach and awefully young team to change years of struggle. I think you have to give her at least two more years unless there's a HOF coach just begging to take over this program. Again, it doesn't sound too dissimilar to FB and Sears and he was NOT the answer, and maybe Ord isn't either but I'd like to see her recruits play as Juniors and Seniors. They were a much more competitive team last season.

According to Old's he's our starting 5.. Can't imaging Rahe having one of the leading rebounders in the NCAA stepping out to pump 3's. There must be a reason they closed the gym last weekend. I always thought that Joel was a little stiff and his offensive game was robotic. From all indications he's our best offensive option this year. We'll find out Wednesday night! Picking the purple by 6!

Guns...I'm thinking you posted this in the wrong thread. What does Joel have to do with shooting threes and Women's Basketball?? No matter, you make some good points!! :thumb:

As for your comment Weather, Ord's chances of being retained aren't good. She has already had three years and they have been dysmal!! CT wasn't the greatest coach on earth, but at very least, with a lot less talent, was able to win over 10 games a year. Ord hasn't even come close to 10 games; heavens has see even won 10 total games yet? She is, unless a championship happens, will not be resigned. Her contract is up. Bovee will be looking for a new women's coach.

Is the apocalypse upon us? An actual thread on ladies ball. It's even got youngguns confused as he's posted a post on Bolomboy in this thread. But seriously, I have some respect for women's basketball. My sister played at Weber and I watched a lot of her games. Just looking at the roster, with Ramos gone they have lost their top two scorers from last season. I really have no idea, but my money would be on them being as bad as last season.

From Ramos' bio:

Is currently undecided on a major at Weber State and hopes to play basketball at the next level after graduating.

Yeah, really sounds like she was in school for the right reason. Maybe she left early to declare for the draft.

Tal, out of curiosity, what supports your arguement "with a lot less talent"? My take is that Ord's talent is about to hit the floor. I have no idea how it compares to CT's but, yes, CT was able to produce a few wins.

Okay, so, and I've got to admit, I don't really care that much about the women's basketball program, but since I was pretty good friends with a number of the girls who played while CT was the coach you can tell there is a talent change. CT's girls were not anywhere as talented as the girls Ord has brought in. But the difference is work ethic, chemistry, and gamesmanship. CT's girls were a team. Ord's players are individuals. Also, and you can look this up quickly on Weber State Sports...but in three years Ord is 9-78. Her best year was last year 7-22, while CT who did not leave the cupboard bare, worst season was 8 wins the year before Ord took over. She had 10 or more wins every year before her worst of 8. She won 17, 21, 15, 16, 12, 10, 10, and 8 after winning two conference championships. CT cost herself the job with how she abused the girls verbally and emotionally. That is why she lost the job. Good lady off the court though.

Not in any way going to disagree! School is always first and my GPA will validate that response. I love hoops and more than comfortable juggling class with basketball! I think I could play if I was 18 inches taller! My future is in medicine, but not going to deny my passion! Dream is to be a team dr. Someday!
