Back to the real world after an incredible weekend. Came into this game with low expectations and was blown away. I know I am late to the game and will be echoing what a lot of the other posters have said on here but here's my take away from this weekend.
Thought the team looked really good in all aspects (sans kick offs). I was really impressed with the defense getting some stops and the 3rd quarter was a thing of beauty. Butt pucker factor went up after Gage's int in the endzone but the team kept their heads on them and found a way to respond.
Like clockwork, Kupp was the best player on the field once again but I was also happy to see Shaq back and he played a hell of a game. I'm not sure I've ever witnessed a football player as automatic as Kupp is. After watching him for four years now, he still seems to amaze me every time he steps on the field.
Is Gage the next great EWU qb? Time will tell but I like what I saw! I love having the option of a mobile qb which we lacked last year with West. Also, major kudos to Coach Taylor and Coach Best. What an offensive game plan and the O-line looked good. Exciting to see how better that group will be with time.
Defense: If you would of told me we would keep WSU to 42 with their late garbage TD, I probably would've thought you were crazy. I've been....cynical of the defense since Towson but I was really impressed with the group, especially with the two stops to start the game. Loved the energy by the secondary, they were flying around out there and thought Mitch Fettig was a beast. Loved seeing Falk get sacked 3 times.
Eagle nation showed up. Our crowds for the annual Pac-12 game have been strong every year but this year's crowd brought it. From several of the highlights I've watched on ESPN, our crowd was LOUD. We made noise on 3rd down (novel concept that probably should be tried at Roos...).
For me, this game ranks higher than the OSU game. Beating an in-state PAC-12 team, one that is arrogant for no reason is much sweeter. Seeing their fans leave after Gage's 30 yard run was so satisfying. WSU has always been the one team I wanted to see EWU take down today will have no shortage of trash talking all my coog fan co-workers.
