PORTLAND, Ore. – Former Portland State guard Dominic Waters has been named to the Utah Jazz summer league squad it was announced today by the team's general manager, Kevin O'Connor.
A 6-foot-1 product out of Grant High School in Portland, Waters played his final two years at PSU after starting out at Hawaii. He was a second team All-Big Sky Conference selection both seasons he played for the Vikings.
As a senior in 2009-10, Waters averaged 18.6 points and 4.8 assists, and shot 42.4 percent from 3-point range and 90.2 percent from the line, all of which led the team. In 2008-09, Waters averaged 11.4 points and 2.9 assists and helped the Vikings to the Big Sky Championship and the NCAA tournament.
Waters is one of four guards that the Jazz will carry on their summer league team. Also on the squad is 6-foot-5 forward Thomas Gardner, who is a 2003 graduate of Portland's Jefferson High School. The 16-player squad will hold a camp prior to the opening of summer league play, from June 30 to July 4, in Orlando.
The Jazz will play five games in the 2010 Orlando Pro Summer League (OPSL) at RDV Sportsplex from July 5-9. Other teams in the league include the host Orlando Magic and the Boston Celtics, Charlotte Bobcats, Indiana Pacers, New Jersey Nets, Oklahoma City Thunder and Philadelphia 76ers. The Jazz open up play on July 5 at 10 a.m. PT, vs. Charlotte. All 20 games of the OPSL will broadcast live on NBA TV and will also be available online through the NBA Summer League Broadband subscription service at http://www.nba.com/summerleaguebroadband.
