Congrats from this Cat fan to your boys last night! Good win for UNC and good win for the Big Sky Conference! Keep it rolling! I see you get to host Pacific -- take it to 'em and win the whole damn thing!!!

This is the 3rd person from 3 different Big Sky schools giving us props. It's really nice to see.

Thanks to all.

(also kind of a relief that between Women's Volleyball and Mens Basketball, that we are competing at the upper tier of the Big Sky)

Does anyone know what the attendance was last night? I wonder if the University broke even given the $31k cost to host

I doubt it. The attendance was only 1800. The students will be back on Monday but it won't matter with the cost because they get in for free.

I dont know about y'all, but I can live with paying 31k a pop if itll keep us alive in this thing......Winning this tournament would be BIG for this basketball program.

Considering we started the season winning a tournament in Hawaii, it would complete a nice circle to top off the best season in basketball season in the history of UNC.

ODU won this thing last year, and that got a first round win against Notre Dame this year. Must of had some influence. We have a really good shot at taking this.

Do you really think this tournament is that big of a deal? I'm not being sarcastic--just curious. Do recruits really care about how well we do in the CIT? The experience for our younger players will help next year but I can't get excited about it. I went to 4 games this year but wouldn't go to one of these games if it was free.

If there aren't teams I root for in the three smaller tourneys, I typically wont watch. Consider ODU (CIT) and Baylor (NIT finalist) last year. Both made the NCAA, and both (especially Baylor) look significantly improved the year after making postseason runs into April. This will benefit our young kids in the long run, and it will gain attention at least in Colorado (one of the places UNC has to recruit well to be successful), as UNC is the only Colorado program still playing basketball.

Interesting comments. Last year was the first ever attempt at the CIT. It is understandable that many teams want to keep their teams playing, especially if you have had a great season already; gives the kids something to play for. And the additional experience gained is priceless. But for schools with over-stressed budgets, it can definitely be an additional strain on them. University of Virginia, an ACC school, lost $150,000 last year after hosting three games in the initial CIT: http://www.roanoke.com/sports/uvabasketball/wb/156219. So you most surely have to weigh the financial cost against the non-tangible benefits. With four post-season tournaments going now (NCAA, NIT, CBI, & the CIT), 129 teams get to compete for some kind of post-season title. If it were my Bobcats, I would hope the school would participate and I would be extremely excited about the additional exposure and experience.

I am sure Bonner and Figures are happy to be in the tournament and that's good enough for me. It's like one of the many many bowl games in football where it really doesn't mean anything except pride and a reward for a good season.

It's like going to a bowl game, is the Weedeater Bowl a good bowl? No, but it's lets you play another game, practice more, etc so it's valuable... and great expierince that could be valuable in next year's Big Sky tourny. It's all about building a program and investing in that future.

I was at Wednesday's game and, trust me, the players and fans care about the CIT. It was a great atmosphere in Butler and the team played one of its best games of the season. I'm looking forward to a packed house and another good game Monday against Pacific.

I am a Griz fan and I care about the CIT!! Any Big Sky exposure is good for us all. Your fans need to be behind the team, and support them! You guys have come a long way already in D-1. Your the best team in COLORADO and you only draw 1800, COME ON!! Good luck on Monday bears! The Big Sky is for you, even if your fans are not!

For those of you who dont think this matters: How many teams from the Big Sky are still playing basketball right nwo?

Tempo is the key to tonight's game, Pacific will try and slow it down while UNC will try to speed it up.. This might be the best defensive team we have seen all year. A game in the 50's and 60's favors Pacific while a game in the 70's or 80' favor Northern Colorado. Go Bears!
