WBB v. Sac State Friday 5-March

Tremendous home stand by the WBB to close out the regular season. Hopefully there will be a big crowd come Friday to honor the seniors and give them momentum going into the BSC tournament. ISU will have their hands full with Sac St, winners of 10 of their last 11, and lighting up the scoreboard (90+ ppg in their last 4 wins, including a 100-83 dismantling of defensive-minded Montana).

For ISU to win, they must control tempo and take care of the ball (32 TO @ Sac State earlier this season...OUCH!).

With a win, ISU would finish 10-6 and a tie for 2nd place in the BSC. Depending on what happens with the other games this upcoming weekend, ISU could get the coveted 1st round bye. ISUSID, can you or Katie confirm the possible seeding scenarios? Regardless, I think the gaps between seeds 1 thru 6 are small enough that any of them can string together 2 or 3 wins to the BSC tourney.

I have forwarded an Excel spreadsheet to the conference office with all 128 possible scenarios. ISU can finish anywhere from second to sixth, no matter what happens on Thursday, ISU will still have a way to finish second, but they are better served with a Montana loss on Thursday.

This much is known. EWU will host with a win over PSU or a SAC loss to either ISU or WSU. If SAC sweeps and PSU beats EWU, than SAC is 1st, EWU is 2nd, and PSU is 3rd. EWU has clinched a bye.

SAC can finish from 1-6, PSU, MSU, ISU, UM all can finish either 2-6.

If ISU is the 3 seed, they can play PSU, UM, MSU, or SAC
If ISU is the 4 seed, they can play PSU, UM, MSU, or SAC
If ISU is the 5 seed, they can play PSU, UM, MSU, or SAC
If ISU is the 6 seed, they can play PSU, UM, MSU, or SAC

To get the #2 seed, ISU must have at a minimum a win over SAC and an EWU win over PSU...then it's various combinations of other things....

huge game, Sac State is a scoring machine that full court presses much of the game, this is going to be a fun one, make sure that you remember the 6:05 pm start. Go Bengals.

wow, 45 minutes of competitive basketball by both teams, one of the best games that I see. That is how you play DI basketball, you leave it all on the floor. We might be the best team in the conference right now. Did I say, wow?

Big win by the Bengals. It was entertaining. Decent crowd. A memorable last home game for the three seasons. Offensively, Sac State reminds me of ISU teams under Newlee...just jacking up 3's early and often and running up and down the court.

It was evident to me that Seton emphasized tempo control and limiting possessions (as he stated in the post game) because there were many times ISU had an advantage after breaking the press yet pulled the ball back and ran the shot clock down before looking to shoot. Skippy or anybody else at the game, what was up with the timer/clock operator sounding the horn after made FTs late in the game when neither team called a timeout nor had a timeout? Liptak made a reference to an exchange of words between the Sac St coach and Seton as they shook hands after game and the Sac St coach motioned or pointed towards the clock operator about "something."

ISU won with big defensive stops and critical steals at the end of the regulation and it OT. But my goodness, they got killed on the offensive glass. Hats off to the team for a very good BSC season that was better than expected.

Here's hoping for good karma and a little help to get the second seed. Speaking of the #2 seed, what outcomes from the Saturday games catapult the Bengals to the #2 seed besides an EWU over PSU?

The Bengals need a PSU loss, a Montana loss, and either a Sac loss or an MSU win.

There's only one way ISU can win a tiebreaker, and that's if they tie only with Sac & Montana State finishes ahead of Montana.

You can see a more complete list of the scenarios here.

Not sure what was going on with the clock last night -- the officials had to keep adding time back to the clock because it was starting too early or stopping too late. (note to officials: its called home court timing. :D

After the game, Jamie Craighead, Sac's coach, nodded toward the timer and roller her eyes as she shook Seton's hand. No big deal.
