Weber State vs Idaho State

It’s a bit early to start this thread. I think we are all frustrated. This was one of the easiest schedules and the Wildcats should have had a good chance to make the playoffs…possibly compete for a conference title with not having to face the Bobcats or UC Davis. Instead woulda, coulda, shoulda.

If anyone thinks the Bengals will be a an easy win, they better think again. I’m pretty sure no one thinks anything is easy with this team given failed first and goals from one-yard line, missed chip shot FGs, poor discipline, poor decisions, etc. Hell, Northern Colorado’s only win in 20 games was due to Weber State and would have been two if not for a total meltdown in Greeley allowing the Wildcats to escape with a win last year. Jeez, this program is in a tailspin!

I think this week will be another example of how we are being out coached. Team Hawkins (son and father) have Idaho State on the upswing. I think they will have a good game plan and win a close game.

I honestly only think Cal Poly is a possible win and that might be due to weather conditions giving Wildcats the edge…no guarantees there either…just might give Wildcats the edge.

I hope the Wildcats stop the poor performances (long stretches of poor play). I want Mental to succeed. He seems like a nice guy…but a head coach needs to know he can’t be the nice guy, but needs to bench players when needed, fire up his team, and game plan better.

With the easier than usual home schedule, they should have been able to go 5-0. If I was the AD, I’d give Mental another year if he can win the last two home games and salvage a 3-2 home record and 5-7 overall record, given how awful the two losses were…especially the homecoming game. That is not a big ask, he can’t do that, then it’s time to stop the tailspin now.

I wish I could be as optimistic as you but giving up 21 points in the first five minutes off a bye tells me Mickey is in over his head. I would vote to make changes sooner than later. We have some talented players...how long will they stick around without success?

And you are right, after losing to a team that hasn't won in two years, there are no easy wins.

Like most young/inexperienced teams, we have been very unpredictable. Good one week, horrible the next.
What team will show up for ISU? Probably just as unpredictable. What will happen after the season is over is also unpredictable.

What is predictable? We won't be in post season play this year, that is out the window. Also, our guys will still show up to play. Our guys still take pride in what they do. Our true fans will still show up in support.

With a new staff, it's a rebuild all over again, with a lot of unknowns.

With this staff it's a continued build, Hopefully, with everyone coming back. Still with a lot of unkowns.

Defense is embarrassing lately…the players saw the screen developing and still chose to pursue the QB instead of dropping back and cover it.

Honestly, the call was probably made to set up a makeable FG and Weber State made it a 31 yard TD.

Gave Northern Colorado and I mean gave Northern Colorado it’s only win in like 25 games and almost would have lost to them last year if the Bears didn’t give that one away to the Wildcats.

First win for the Bengals in Ogden in 40 years. Hats off to them…but still another bad marker with the Wildcats sloppy defense, numerous penalties including lining up offsides on a FG, dropping a punt off the bat. On the plus side, I liked the Thriller dance on one of our TDs. If only preparation was put into actual football, we could maybe win some games.

Throw out the Northwestern State game, and this is a two-win team…just like with Sears. I honestly think Sears would have done better with this team…not by much…but better.

Cut your losses now! The team has already quit on the season…just make it official and fire Mental at least at year’s end if not now.

Get a new AD too. We don’t even have enough games scheduled next year. Probably trying to line up some softies to help out.

I don’t know if Weber State could win the Brown Jug or Ironhorse Trophy this year.

Let’s cut the here and just be honest.

1. Mickey Mental is a complete BUM of a HC. The guy dresses like a slob, and looks like he just woke up after a 10 day bender so who in their right mind should want to send their child here?!! He is equally as atrocious a HC as he looks. Time and again the same POS play calls and expecting different results. Too many games we lost the exact same way and he never has fixed ANYTHING. He sucks period and the team has followed his piss poor leadership model or lack there of.

2. Our staff has either regressed under the crumb HC or was never good to begin with. Let’s face it coach Hill covered up an obvious lack of defensive leadership in the coaching department. Duff and Dale couldn’t formulate a game plan to stop an all women’s lingerie league team!! Dyson and Ah You clearly are inept at their position assignments as WR’s are constantly running free and our LB’ers are always out of position. The fact is without Jay this defense sucks and clearly the staff has zero clue how to fix it. That only leaves us needing help on offense and defense. Special teams forget about it because we aren’t special there at all!! All three phases coached better and we’ll be right there!!

3. Save for a solid running back room we are beginning to see a step back in player development as well now. Munoz has regressed, the WR’s are pedestrian, the O line is iffy, and don’t start on the defense at all!! Butler is awful in the return game so teams don’t need to be worried about that anymore either. Doyle has been a solid punter, but Kyle Thompson is a complete turd in the kicking game!! Fans who defend Kyle by saying he’s the leading scorer need to look at how many games he’s blown, and how many times we’ve gone for it instead of try the FG because the team knows Thompson chokes more than a pornstar!! The team commits too many penalties and boneheaded decisions and NEVER is there a benching or an ass chewing. Fact is the team has followed Mental right into skid row (which is where he looks like he lives)!!

4. The transfer portal will be brutal for our RB room I’m afraid. Godley and Bankston should and probably will bolt when this season mercifully ends. I was worried about others leaving but to be honest most of this team has either regressed or aren’t good enough to leave at present so there is that. The coaching staff has certainly stunted the growth of these players which is sad in and of itself.

In summary, there is no way in Hell the Cats should keep Mental PERIOD!!! Another year watching that 1990’s looking HS gym coach walking the sideline is enough to make me want to go blind in my remaining one good eye!! Crompton is equally inept at his job and should be canned, but we know that won’t happen either. If I’m in Weber St. front office I reach out to coach Kjar at Corner Canyon or if not him then do a national search!! We need new blood in here desperately and if we don’t change now then they may as well just tear down the stadium because it’s a shame to waste such good real estate on this putrid product. After 20+ years I’m done supporting this team and it’s because of Crompton and Mickey “I Must Be” Mental!!!

Old dude get your head out of your rump please!!! This “inexperienced” doesn’t fly when you’re 10 weeks into a season! Montana St. went to a national championship game with a freshman QB!! This team from week 1 until now still makes the same stupid mistakes and dumbass penalties, so it’s not experience it’s leadership and accountability period!! We also have seniors ie Thompson who still sucks at kicking and has gotten worse all 4+ years so I guess age doesn’t matter there. No excuses this team is horrid and it’s all because Mental and Crompton have ZERO leadership skills and in Mickey’s case obviously not much better coaching acumen.
