He was not on scholarship and didn't have the school paying for his education.

Well in that case him and Green Cookie Monster do have a lot in common.

What drink underage? Legal was at 18, then 19 and finally 21 when I was starting college. Most months I was legal, some months not.

Don't know all the facts. What is the definition of hammered?

Good point. Did they breathalize this kid? Did they make him touch his nose and tilt his head back? Did they make him walk a straight line? Did he drink and drive? (Which would be reason for dismissal imo.) I don't know the details or if this kid has done this before, but if athletes are going to get booted for their first offense, I would expect many more of this. I imagine this being an issue on almost all college football teams (except BYU  ). People make mistakes. It's not like he was throwing rocks at oncoming traffic.

I'm not saying this should be overlooked, and I would imagine the coaches talked to him and told him to knock this off. But these are college kids, most of whom are fresh out of high school and away from parental oversight for the first time in their lives. They are going to screw up; it's a part of life.

yeah, kids will be kids, and we all went out and did things we probably shouldn't have done. but trying to earn a spot on a college football team carries added responsibilities.

when you're a rookie who was given the opportunity by the coaching staff to walk on and contribute to the team, going out in the middle of summer/fall practice to get juiced is what i call reckless. there are nine other months in the year to get hammered. (that's why Biasi is not around anymore, fyi.)

and i have to believe that ALL players got the preseason speech by the coaching staff that they better 'straighten up and fly right' before 'practices began - i.e. no bar fights, no dui's, etc. i would consider that speech fair warning. heck, even my high school team got the same speech before the season began and we all knew exactly what this meant - get caught with booze or even smell like it and you are gone. no second chances.

anyhoo, who knows what this kid could have done for the team if he had stayed on. i consider it a good jettison in order to send a message to the rest of the team. and i would imagine that the core of the team fighting for starting spots are not out getting hammered - they are in the weight room, studying the playbook, or spending extra time on the field. they aren't worried about dodging coaches or getting breathalized.

GO HORNETS!

Defense looked good early. Dailey looked very good. There appears to have been an attitude adjustment in the last week and he ran very well, good vision, other players interacted with him. Kickers put the ball down to the 5 yard line on kick-offs. The quarterbacks looked good, not great, but the mistakes were limited. Crox did not play (ankle) but he should be ready. All the other backs ran well. Wilkens displayed some quickness and played well on special teams. McCowan will be a good one. Some of the true freshman lineman had good moments and missed some blocks, but after a season in the system, they will be good. Badger played well as did the D line.

John Hendershott looked phenomenal. He had nine catches and took a one to the house with a 26 yard run after the catch. The freshman WR from Berkeley, Morris Norrise had a four nice catche salso. Deionte Gordon had the hit of the game early in the scrimmage. Just destroyed the WR.

I have some video and I'll try to get it up on the web this week.

Offensive line is improved, but defensive line looks amazing. Big and fast and lots of them.
