"Weber is a bad team"

Fortunately Weber State is a bad team that looks like another cupcake. How bad, taking out the statistics of a 71 point win against a division III team ,Weber State is:

317 out 345 in rebounding in the country with a margin of -5.6
227 in field goal percentage
297 in assists per game
This is a bad team. This cupcake is different because when the game was scheduled it looked like a solid game. But now things have changed. More importantly cupcakes are not "fun" anymore.

So I am not going to break down the players or matchups because it should not matter.

Well we have been playing like a "bad team" so I don't see any reason why ucla wouldn't think that as well. Yeah were coming off a big win but that school was literally no more than a 2A high school team. According to the standard they are a first year team that isn't even NAIA yet. We have the players who can keep up with the Bruins but they haven't put together a full game yet (good streaks against byu and usu) but nothing for ucla to worry about. Seeing those statistics makes me gag. I don't understand how we get out rebounded so heavily with how athletic we are. Obviously we all know how poorly we work the ball so that stat is no surprise.

If we come out and play weber state, randy rahe basketball I saw we lose by maybe ten or less. Anything other than that will be an embarrassment.

What the hell is Randy Rahe basketball, I dont know ... :coffee:

Well right now our offense looks good but were missing all our open shots. Getting good looks but down ten. Defense we are just over matched... Bolomboy just doesn't have the weight to stay on the blocks. And he just missed two foul shots :wall:

Game would be closer, but the Cats Have missed some wide open looks. Weber has gotta start hitting those open shots; especially from beyond the arch.

Bottom line is the Big Sky is atrocious. I mean absolutely terrible. So even if we are the best team in the conference, which is doubtful at this point, that still means we're a "bad team".

The Big Sky is not that bad. As for our team, we have as much athleticism and talent as any Weber team has ever had. The problem is, we haven't had enough games to build a team identity and fire on all cylinders. We are still the team to beat in the Big Sky. When conference play starts we are 0-0 and should forget about nonconference play. After all, when March comes, how much is nonconference play going to matter?

I have to respectfully disagree. The Big Sky is terrible. Weber does have ample athleticism and talent, however, they have plenty of weaknesses to go with it. The crappy schedule is being used too much as a crutch for their shaky start, Weber is not as good as hoped. As far as when March comes, if (and that's a huge if) Weber finally gets back into "The Dance," they still won't have a team that matches up any better against the UCLA's, byu's, USU's, and CSU's of the (basketball) World. Those teams will also be a season more experienced and better, just like (hopefully) Weber will be.

If this team plays to the level of talent we have, anything can happen come March on a neutral court. With this coaching staff and group of players, I am confident in our ability to eliminate the weaknesses we have as long as we maintain confidence. I am ready for conference play and some W's.

Deewildcattailgater,

I am sorry I am not drinking your kool aid. First off, how many wins did the Big Sky have this weekend against D-1 opponents? we had none. The conference is awful this year and we are right in the pack.

Many of the things wrong with this team don't get fixed by playing more games, Are foul shooting is still not good. Tres gets into foul trouble any time he is faced with decent size down low. we lack a real strong leader personality. We have alot of guys that like tote for themselves before making the extra pass.

We will be top 4 in the conference. But we are missing alot of intangibles past teams have had. The schedule has been horrible, but there are other main reasons for this teams struggles. Just keep telling yourself that this is one of the most talented Weber teams ever.

The Cats really only have 1 bad loss. Yes, Weber should have 2 more W's. Losses to Utah State and UVU were uncalled for. Frankly, I feel, in both situations, that Weber is the better team. Rebounding and toughness were the biggest reason why we lost those games. Another glaring issue is our shooting. Rahes offense depends so much on hitting the outside shot. I dont have the numbers to back this statement up, but this team is the worst outside shooting team since Rahe took over in 06. If the 3's aren't falling the Cats really struggle. Look at yesterday...4-22? Need I say more? How many of those were wide open too?

Finally, Bolomboy needs to become a force inside. Teams won't dare to double Tres since they will have to worry about Joel. He needs to become possessed!! Like at the Big Sky Tourny last year. Both he and Tres playing well would be a nightmare for opposing teams. But a lot of that really depends on Bolomboy. If he can't, give Hill or Fuller more mins.

No matter, I really feel the Cats need one or two JC guys next spring. The Cats desperately need a legitimate outside shooter and maybe a strong PF. Ryan Richardson is an awesome outside shooter but he probably needs a year to physically mature more. Cannon is another year away from being home. He is our other sharp shooter. As for the possible PF...Yes, Fuller or Hill could become that PF guy. I feel that Hill would be best suited for the 4 and Fuller at the 3.
