Weber State @ Eastern

Weber played as well as they possibly could and still lost. They were running a lot of screens to free up shooters, and drew double teams to do the same. I only saw them miss one FT. They did everything they could. Hayford was very smart to kill their late momentum with timeouts while we stayed in touch. This was a good chess match. The crowd was great too which helped a lot. There would have been a time when 10 and 4 would have been appreciated around here.

Good win today over a team that will definitely be a contender for the Big Sky title.
How are we going to get some production out of the rest of the team? Harvey and Jois can not do 2/3 of the scoring all year. If someone can guard Tyler even a little or when he has a bad day we are really suspect. The other guys are getting shots as good as Tyler or Venky just poor shooting percentages.
WHY?
I'll take the win and be happy to have it but this can not continue and expect to win on the road.

The Eagle offense looks pretty damn solid. I wish Harvey didn't have to carry such a big portion of the load as often as he does, but if it works, don't fix it. If we could just step up a little more on the defensive side, this is going to be an awfully tough team to beat.

Regardless of what Douchebag McFuck has to say, Weber State is still in the top third of the conference and beating them is a good way to start conference play.

I was talking to Coach the other day and according to him, the main thing is they need a third player to step up each night to make everything work, but he'd be crazy not to keep feeding Tyler and Venky.

Keeping at least one other viable offensive threat going per night is critical to keep things open for Venky and Tyler. I think the other guys just need to keep working and taking those shots, they are good enough shooters that they will start to fall, the second half tonight was a big step for the young guys (OG and Bliznyuk in particular), must build confidence and the only way is to keep shooting.

Venky and Tyler combined for 21 of 39 - 53.8%
The "field" were 9 of 27 - 33%
The team did shoot an awsemome % on FT, 16 of 17 - 94%!

clawman,
We looked for you and the Wife last night. I agree with Coach, we need some more help scoring for our team. SirGarethThe3RD keep mentioning that. Here is hoping we get the help with scoring very soon. According to Larry Weir, there were 1,832 personnel at the game. Reece Court did look very packed, and the students will be back on Monday. Any Belated Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to ALL       Vic Wallace

93bird,
I kept saying Weber hadn't missed a free throw. They missed 3, Larry Weir, Radio Announcer mentioned it. That was a surprise to me. Anyway our team looked great, Weber has nothing to be ashamed at, just that they lost, the have a great team. Hope not to much soreness comes tomorrow, Saturday. I am very much with #32, Bogdon (Bee d Bee), have difficulty saying his last name. He held his own the little time he played. Keil, and Sir Washington didn't get much playing time. Their time will come, the time they have played they looked good. Belated Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to ALL. Vic Wallace

I was at the game yesterday, what a big win for the team! Crowd was surprisingly really good, the ticket special deal that they put on really worked. I thought New Years Day, Rose Bowl, and bad roads would keep everyone away, but it was the best crowd i've seen in a while.

Harvey is worth the price of admission, he is an absolute stud. Jois played well, then it looked like he rolled his ankle, sat for awhile and wasn't the same in the 2nd half. Someone earlier said it best, if we have a 3rd scorer, we will be tough to beat.

Brandon is kind of a do everything PG. He just fills the stat sheet, doesn't stand out, but at the end of the game he is nearing a triple double pretty consistently.

Weber played well and we still won. There was a stretch in the game where they didn't miss for 6-7 possessions and it didn't look good, but Eastern recovered and hit some great shots down the stretch.

Great crowd, great atmosphere, great game yesterday. This team is destined for a great year and took a big step yesterday...

I don’t think Jois rolled his ankle. It looked like he knocked knees with a Weber player. Hopefully not as big an injury as an ankle but knee caps can get really sore. Brandon got an elbow in the nose and was in a lot of pain but returned.

Great effort by the team yesterday. This team is showing it’s experience. In past years the team would have folded. These guys battled and forced Weber to make mistakes. Great win. Looking forward to the ISU game tomorrow. I hope we add to the crowd we had yesterday.

A good win against a team who will only get better. When we play them again 3/7 it will be our last conference game and could very well be a HUGE game...for a number of reasons.

It really was a gutty win by all, Harvey just hitting everything again, Venky playing through the knee injury, Brandon finished super strong after a bloody/broken? nose, Parker with is typical can't miss in the clutch 3, OG going off for 8 pts and 4 boards in the first 10 minutes of the second half, and Bogdan Bliznyuk comes in for 8 second half rebounds, was a huge part of what shut Weber down in the second.

ISU is a very good defensive team, but so far they have only Chris Hansen that can score... could be an interesting game!

GoEags!

Since I live in Texas I won't be at the game, but those that are... please cheer extra loud for me!

EWUEagleEye,
Glad to see that you are following the Eagles BB Team from afar. Our Women BB Team are also doing well. We will be there cheering very loud for you and many more of our Eagle Fans. Remembered being in that part of the country Jan 1954, Basic Military Training, and cold like being up North. Wake Up Call at 5 a.m. Training at 6 a.m., drills, etc., cold like you know what. I was at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, TX. Didn't realize it got that cold in TX. Noticed you are having you are having some cold weather now. Belated Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year, to you and yours. Here is hoping some of the injuries on Thursday, doesn't show its ugly faces tomorrow against ISU. Here is hoping for a great game from our side. Take care.!!!!! Vic Wallace

The thing about a 3rd scorer is you don't want to try and force somebody to try and score. It should come in the flow of things. I think that Jois and Harvey are so hot right now that the rest of the team is feeding them. That is not a bad thing, but just be ready to step up if they go cold for a night or two.

Thanks Vic!

Thank you for your service as well. I did my basic at Great Lakes, IL, that was the craziest weather ever, one day it was near 100 the next day it was snowing and so forth!

re: the third scorer, its more just important that a third person is shooting effectively on any given night to keep defenses honest, but they'd be crazy to not force feed Venky and Tyler right now
