Weber vs. Jacksonville St.

Refs? Come on folks, wake up and smell the coffee. Over and over and over again... Weber State blows a big lead... it is always the refs? I don't think so! There is a theme here and it is not the refs!

I agree it's not the refs, but what is the THEME here?

Some of you guys need to chill, you know, relax. #20 Cincinatti beat this same team by 10 on their own floor. We let them hang around after being up 21, and didn't put them away on a bad shooting night.... Big deal. My biggest concern is inside scoring. We have got to figure out a way to get Tresnak the ball down low.

CatBasketballFan, again, what is the theme? Give me a break..

I agree that it's not always the refs. I've posted before that our team needs to find a way to play an entire game at the level we're capable of playing. I'm concerned that we can build such a big lead, and then let it get whittled away. Turnovers, cold shooting, getting complacent, etc. certainly contribute and I'm hoping that we're still just working out the kinks in the early season. But . . . bad refs can significantly affect the game. Early in the second half, the fouls were 7-1 against Weber. When you go up for a rebound that results in what should be a jump ball, and end up getting called for a foul . . . or play good solid defense (i.e., Mahoney having position, playing with hands straight up), and get called for a foul when a Jacksonville player charges in--which results in having your opponent in the bonus that early in the second hal--has to affect how aggressively you play. And Jacksonville capitalized on it. Thankfully, we managed to hang on.

Reading all these posts you would have thought WSU got ran out of the building by JSU. We played poorly in the second half but still won. I think we will come out tomorrow ready for the gales.

It was our poor ball handling on our part and quickness on their part, that got Jacksonville St back in the game. We won't see that kind of speed too many times this year, but we need to learn how to handle it. :twocents:

exciting to see us at 4-0!!! winning is all that matters. get better every week and keep winning. we have a shot at giong 5-0 tomorrow. smc is a winnable game but im sure we will see some 8 on 5 action. need to play smart and make good decisions. full court press was causing fits for us and the team knows it should have not been that close.

at the game though i can say the team never looked frustrated or worried about JSU. their demeanor walking off teh court you could tell they were not satisfied. we got the win though. smc lost to denver but smc at home could be like usu in logan. we are really looking good this year on rebounding. 40+ a game.

another thing we did that was GREAT was getting to the free throw line. we played like it was a conf game. just drive to the goal and you will get fouled. we attempted 34 free throws to their 18 and they fouled us 27 times. the 16 pts in the paint was not good compared to their 25 but we did miss a lot of possible and ones but we got to the line. if we play like that offensively in conf play we will go 16-0. i have never understood why all big sky teams dont do that. big sky refs suck and call a defensive 7 out of 10, 2 others will be a charge, the 1 is a no call.

smc hit 13 3's vs the DII. i hope they used up all their 3 point shooting and have much less for us like when they went to denver and lost and made 5 3's shooting 26%.

im excited to see dame vs Matthew Dellavedova who is maybe the best point guard we will face this year. probably cal's is the best.

rahe:
“In the second half Jacksonville State threw a lot of different defenses at us and did some nice things that threw us out of our rhythm but we stayed aggressive and made the plays we needed to down the stretch,” said WSU head coach Randy Rahe. “We attacked the boards really hard and got some important rebounds. Now we’re excited to face a very good Saint Mary’s team tomorrow night.”

WeberSki... to quote WILDCAT from the St. Mary's thread...

There are some major things we need to work on if we want to come out of Moraga with a win, First and formost, what the eff is up with playing so well in the first half and coming out and playing so cold in the second half? In all of our last 3 games, we have played really well in the first half only to come out completely flat in the second... I have faith.

That is the theme. I am just saying, it is a problem, it is recurring. I can't put my head in the sand and pretend that it is not so. I also believe that if the coaches and team don't put their head in the sand but rather acknowledge it and do something about it... it can be addressed. Again, to quote WILDCAT, I have faith!

To be honest, this one had me worried. Weber doesn't play well on Sundays (Why the eff is a Jesuit School playing games on Sundays?) and hasn't performed well in the past playing on Sundays. I know catcat will go off on this post, but I believe that Weber shouldn't play on Sundays. If there isn't anything they can do about it and its forced upon them, for instance, the league schedules their games, then so be it. But if Rahe and the AD have control over the situation/scheduling, then they shouldn't play games on Sunday. Yes, I know it is really hard to get teams to play us, especially now, and Yes, I know that there might be some benefits to playing in St. Mary's tourny (they best be coming to the Dee next year, there is no reason that they shouldn't. After seeing pics of their stadium, all I could do is shake my head.), so I guess there is a good tradeoff, but no matter, I'm always worried about the Cats when they play on Sunday.

Gotta admit, there is nothing more "spiritually uplifting" than watching your team win on sunday :-D

I'm sorry Tal, but this is craziness.....

I'm very superstitious...loooooooool...remember the game against New Mexico a couple of years ago. Weber was horse wipped in that game.
