Weber vs. USU - predictions

College hoops is starting for real, and the 'Cats have a big test right off the bat. Dust off your crystal ball and make your predictions here.

I think there are three factors that will dictate the results:
1. Lillard vs. Pane. if Damian can get his normal scoring, it gives the Cats a plus, and will make the USU defense adjust, which leads to ....
2. Scoring from the shooting guard position: Hughey has had a good exhibition, and if Bamforth can play, it helps the 'Cats vs. Newbold, both our guys are more athletic.
3. Our bigs must keep Wesley in check, and with Bendall out, the Aggies may be adjusting inside to different player sets.

Playing at the Spectrum is always a disadvantage for the visitors.

My prediction: 'Cats 66, Aggies 65 in a very close game

We have no chance in Logan with Bamforth most likely out for the game. He is our starting 2, best shooter and has an important scoring role on this team. Porter and Bamforth will be sorely missed Saturday.

USU 76
WSU 62

I think Weber has a great chance to win this game. Granted, having Bamforth would definitely improve the Cats chances, but Weber is going to be able to compete far better this year in the post than they have been able to the past couple of seasons. With Bendall out, USU only has one of their towers, Wesley; who even alone is a beast. Regardless, in past games against USU their height has killed the Cats. This year, with the absence of Bendall, the front court is about even. Other than USU's frontcourt, virtually manhandling the Cats in the past (this opens up the outside, USU has perhaps the best inside out game I've ever seen. Weber cannot let Newbold, Williams, Green, or anyone for that matter to get open on the outside. Make them hit the hardest shots possible) the next biggest issue facing the Cats is the Spectrum. HOLY MOSES, does that place rock. This will be the first time in the Rahe era, that Weber will be visiting Logan while school is in session, along with being the season opener and instate rival. Its going to be loud and crazy. Yes, Skeeter, I've got my tickets!! Anyway, personally I think it'll be a close hard fought game. I'd like to see Weber win, but i doubt it happens. No matter, hope rises eternal. Weber is due for a W in Logan.

Bendall did not play (Heart Issue) last December when we played in the Gossners, and We got eaten alive. I have my tix, I hate USU, and I will there, but I don't see how we win this game. Tal our Frontcourt is not even, Wesley will destroy Morris Im afraid, and Jardine and Mahoney will battle. I'm afraid we just don't have enough firePower without Bamforth and Porter. Lillard will skool Pane, but it's not going to be enough.

hopefully we can double team wesley and shut him down (like we did to jaycee carroll when we beat them in 2008) and let the game be decided in the back courts where we can have our best chance. i really would love to see a win in the spectrum. i have been to all of our games there but 2 since our last win there in 1994. i missed 1996 and 2000.

been waiting for
a win in the
spectrum
since 1994

Cats 85-84

As much as I want to predict a Weber win, Logan is a very tough place to play.
USU is strong upfront, but has new players on the perimeter. I think it will be close, but home cooking and the crazies will sway the game to Chuck Beef Stew and the rest of the Gaggies.

USU 68
WSU 62

Spectrum advantage. Post advantage even with Bendall out. A PG in Pane who is much better on the defensive end than Quayle was last year. Lilliard will have to work hard for his 20. Aggies by 10. Good luck in all your games but this one.

Either our guards go off and can't be stopped and we win by 1 or home cookin gets USU a 12 point win after fouls in the final minute.

I think our overall team is more talented than the Aggies this year but the Spectrum is a tough test for a lot of our young players. I think we'll be able to see if our young guys can handle the rough environment. I'm going with a 80-76 OT win for Weber (could obviously be reversed for the Ags but I'm going with the homer pick). Hey, I called the Montana upset in football and everyone thought I was crazy. 8-)

I have to say this game will depend on WSU shutting down the USU biggs. Lillard will get his but will need somebody else to step up on the offense. Here's hoping to a WSU victory.
Is this game on TV by chance?

USU press report is the game will be on CW30. Hope they are right!

How many Aggie W's can be attributed to Spectrum clock management issues??

The 02 game still hurts. After getting the ball back with 10secs to go, the shot clock goes off with 3.5 to go. Barton threw up a desperate 3 that Danley (Chocolate Thunder) rebouded and put back in with 2.5 to go. But with time still on the clock the zebras ran off the floor. Most bizarre thing I have ever seen. Oh that and the 10 2nd half charging fouls and the rapping (jump ball call) of Brad Barton by pinegar. YIKES!!

i have seen issues with the time in the Spectrum 3 times, no joke. 2002-03 our game and 2 games in one season i believe 2008-09 when usu hosted both wyoming and utah. the ute game was at the very end and was very dramatic. i cant stand boylen but i felt bad for him that day. the wyo game no one even noticed, it was a new yrs eve game. during the second half i look up and the clock wasn't even moving then it was fixed and didn't really matter.

Stew Morril Complains, the refs call some fouls on Weber.

Randy Rahe complains about the one sided officiating and the refs tell him to be quiet just like a few years ago.

Utah State's 20 more free throws than Weber seal the win, unfortunately. The only team that can get a call in the Spectrum is USU, and people say the crowd is the reason teams cant win.

Same old Spectrum crap

I just woke up from an amazing dream. We were down 8 with 30 seconds left and the Aggies switched their Ogden High school chant to there famous winning team, loosing team chant. Somehow we came back and sent the game into overtime and blew them out in overtime. We then proceeded to do the winning team loosing team chant in their stadium. After the game we chanted Weber State in there stadium until every last Aggie left.

I predict
WSU 72
USU 65

Sometimes dreams become reality......and this one would not be all bad! Thanks

Ah, the Spectrum!! I'll be honest, I am really envious of that place. I know the Dee could be louder, and I have been at games in the PURPLE PALACE when it has (2003 Championship Game). However that only happens once in a, dare I say, blue moon. While the Ag's get that placed hoppin practically every game. Yes, there isn't much else to do in Logan, but nonetheless, it is quite the place.

I just don't feel right about one thing at the Spectrum...how their student body turns their backs and chant during player introductions. They claim they started it, oh no...thats been going on at Weber since I was in Elementary School...it was started by the Wild Man. If only Weber could get some fans like that again.
