Week 1: Hornets @ Beavers

The Hornets kickoff the 2011 season with their annual body bag/money game which involves a trip to Corvallis to play a Pac 12 team that has been competitive in their conference the past few seasons.

Offense
From OSU’s media guide, they return 4 of 5 starting offensive linemen, their starting QB Katz, as well as 2 of 3 WR’s. Both of their listed returning WR’s were reported to have injuries so they might not see action during the game. OSU returns one starting RB however it was also reported that he was banged up as well. Their OL isn’t huge; their starting OL averages 298.2 lbs.

Defense
Defensively OSU returns 1 of 4 starting defensive linemen, 1 of 3 starting LB’s, 1 of 2 starting CB’s, and 1 of 2 safeties. This defense lacks experience but being as it is a Pac 12 program I doubt it lacks talent. Their DL has great size. One DT is 334 lbs and both DE’s are about 180 lbs. Something to watch will be their returning starter at RE against a new Hornet LT. 2 of their LB’s have experience although only one is a returning starter so I don’t think there will be much of a drop off for them there. Their secondary could be suspect as they will be breaking in a new LCB and a safety.

Special Teams
On special teams they return their punter and long snapper. They do not have a kicker named in the media guide so that could be an issue for OSU.

The Beavers have quite a bit of questions marks on both sides of the ball and given the injuries that are being reported; this game could be a lot closer than people may think. Ultimately this is still a Pac 12 program with Pac 12 talent, speed, and depth and I think OSU will prevail because of those advantages. Here is what I am hoping to see from the Hornets this weekend:
  • • No injuries to key players
    • An offense that can avoid turnovers, show some life and move the ball against an inexperience defense
    • No injuries to key players
    • A defense that can make some stops and force some punts, maybe even create a few turnovers
    • No injuries to key players
    • Punt and kick coverage that will not allow a big return
    • No injuries to key players
    • Punt and kick return teams that can generate good field position
    • And finally and most importantly no injuries to key players :dead:
I don’t anticipate a win here and I’d be more than happy to see the Hornets get out of Corvallis with their health intact. I think the Hornets keep the game close for a quarter or two but ultimately the Beavers depth and talent will break it open.

Go Hornets!

I'm pumped! I'll be streaming the game via HDMI to my 55" TV! I will be joined by a couple ignorant Beavers who think that this will be at least a 42 point victory for OSU.

I think something in the 14 to 28 point range is more realistic...

Great overview...

Game week...so damn excited !!!

Pulling out the movie clip motivation...lol

Ok corny movie, but a damn great pregame pep talk :D

I have no basis for my prediction (as always), but I'm feeling a bit cheeky:
Hornets: 31
Bush Bumpers: 27
Hornets score 10 defensive points, Hilliard 100+ yards.

Beavers really "banged" up, no pun intended.

Love from Oregon.

How are any of you watching the OSU game this weekend? I've only found "Beaver Nation Online" (osubeavers.com). I would rather watch the game than listen to just an audio stream. So if any of you have found an alternative, any help would be appreciated. :dunce:

Ficky, online looks to be the only option. And if someone has video conferencing capabilities, they might be able to spare you the $9.99. I'm paying the fee and turning down the volume to listen to the game on 93.1 via iHeartRadio since I'll be out of the Sacramento area.

Your TV needs an HDMI input or an input that looks like one similar to a computer monitor input cable. (Not sure of the technical name as I am always behind the tech curve.) Then you will need a cable that can connect your laptop/PC to your TV. The one I have is a male connection on both ends that can connect to the female connections on both the TV and comp.

It looks like this:

But again, I think you will have options depending on what your TV & comp input & output capabilities.

How new is your laptop/TV? Is it an LCD TV?

You might already have the toolds to sync up... I ask about the age of your equipment because the newer electronics have an HDMI cable input which will provide better quality video and sound.

If it's older, you can use your VGA cable (the one with the blue male/female tips) to plug in...

Let me know what you're dealing with and I can point you in the right direction... lol

Hit the nail on the head SD...

ff, I’d recommend going with HDMI if your equipment has those capabilities. I forgot to mention when I use my connection, audio comes from the comp and not the TV. An HDMI cable takes care of that issue.

2,000th post. :woo:

Careful your next post is 2000!!!

Let's hope the Hornets can avoid any serious injuries. As for a prediction, Pac 12 vs. BSC is never easy, but I'll go with 35-13 OSU.

Looks like Hendershott and Reed will have to work their way back on to the field... I thought we might see a Reed, Deadder, Hendershott starting trio. Nice to see Howard up there though!
