Week 1: Hornets @ Beavers

Simple but BOLD......I predict an upset!

All due respect to Pac 12 talent and money, along with OSU and Coach Riley whom I admire very much, BUT.... the Beavers are very young and have holes and question marks all over the place, plus they seem distracted by too many issues.

Sac State coaches, staff and players have worked hard and done all the right things. We are very talented, deep and focused. This team is ready to win. I have played for, coached on and watched many winners over the years. There is a unique buzz around a football team that has all the qualities of a champion and the Hornets have that buzz.

Sacramento State needs a cornerstone game/win to catapult us to the next level and Oregon State is that game. It's our time and the Beavers can't change that.

Good luck today in Corvallis. Always a tough task to take on a Pac-12 team, but, i think the Hornets keep it close today. Getting the Beavers early in the season (where they traditionally start slow) with many new starters and many injuries, is really big. Its just so hard to overcome the depth and speed of a good FBS team. Get off to a fast start on offense, minimize mistakes and Beaver big plays (like fumbling a punt within your own 20 or giving up a kickoff return for TD), and you give yourself a good chance of pulling off a huge upset.

i saw a line of something like 24 points....i'd take the Hornets and points. their last FCS opponent was Portand State in 2009, beating them 34-7. this OSU team isn't as good, and the Hornets are much better than that PSU team.

Still 21-6 heading to the 4th. However, the Hornets squandered a HUGE opportunity to blow the game open. A nice drive came to an end after a Hilliard fumble inside the OSU 40. The Hornets REALLY need another defensive hold here to start the 4th.

The Beavers run game is wearing down the smaller Hornets. 21-13 with a little over 12 minutes remaining. C'mon Sac State .. don't pull a Utah State. Follow this through. The offense needs another long, time consuming drive capped by at least a FG. They accomplish that, and it may well be enough.
