Week 1: Hornets @ Beavers

YES!!!

Congrats hornets, (except superhornet), great game, looking forward to a great year in the Big Sky.

that might be the weirdest end of the game sequence i've seen in a LONG time. OSU fights back to tie....Sac drives, fumbles...OSU marches....fumbles, long return...Sac gets in position for go-ahead FG...blocked. OSU marches into position for game-winning FG, miss.

OT...OSU scores, Sac scores...2 point conversion......major upset!!

my wife kept looking at me every time i chuckled and shook my head. 'now what?'

must have been a hoot to watch live or on TV.

I cannot believe it. Seriously. I felt it slipping away and was almost resigned to losing when the Beavers lined up for the FG with seconds remaining. Thank god it was such a short FG attempt. I think that's what caused the miss more than anything. From the right hash, a kicker will typically aim for the right-upright and the ball will hook in. However, with less time and distance, the ball never got the draw it needed.

In OT, the quick TD scared me, but I felt pretty good once the Hornets got the first down. At that point, I thought they'd score, but wasn't sure what they'd do for the conversion. I am so glad Sperbeck went for the win. It's such a nice change to see a head coach play to win rather than not to lose. The longer that game played out, the more advantage the bigger, more talented Beavers had.

It goes without saying, this is a program changing win. I am so proud of the players and coaches. They executed the game-plan about as well as they possibly could have against a superior program. Luckily, the experience the Hornets had on both sides of the ball, as well as the coaching (I think they out-coached OSU), was enough to overcome the size and talent disparity. Jeff Flemming, Morris Norrisse, Chase Deadder, Brandon Reed and the entire defense deserve game balls. While the defense couldn't stop the rushing attack, they did an excellent job rushing the passer and disrupting OSU's offense on 3rd downs.

Awesome, awesome win. I am so happy for this program right now. Here's hoping they build off this and not suffer any letdowns next week or the rest of the way. This could be a very, very special season for the green and gold.!!!

You just touched on something I didn't mention in my previous wordy post. The fact that the Hornets kept overcoming adversity cannot be over-looked. While the missed FG at the end of regulation was lucky, we've seen previous Hornet teams wilt under the pressure of a big game once things go bad. They had many opportunities to do so today, but didn't fold. THAT my friends is a BIG change from teams and games past and why I am so optimistic right now.

Simple but BOLD......I predict an upset!

Gotta give you props for calling your shot. While internally I was optimistic, I was also quite skeptical considering the history of the program and the fact that it was a Pac-12 school. Even if OSU isn't all that good, it's still a monumental win ... by far the biggest in program history.

Man, I thought this place would totally abuzz being the first week and all AND considering the monumental win. Where is everybody?? Still in shock??? lol

Drinking heavily.

Nice.

That was a tense game and would drive anybody to drink ;)

Just in case anybody still doesn't believe, even ESPN says so .... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=312460204" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

YYYYYEEEEESSSSSSSS! what a game, up and down, down and out, in and out, and then we pull it out. (say that to your lady!)

again, what a game. just glad we came out the winner, what a heartbreaker to lose. congrats to the team, coaches and us fans...

I will have more meaningful comments on this victory probably early next week. But today was absolutely amazing. What a roller coaster ride, what a rush, whatr a reward for the long-suffering hornet faithful.

What a great day...

Me and a few buddies ordered the game online and put it up on the big screen, it was AWESOME!!! Well worth the $9.99 we paid to see OSU get beat by the Hornets.

I have no basis for my prediction (as always), but I'm feeling a bit cheeky:
Hornets: 31
Bush Bumpers: 27
Hornets score 10 defensive points, Hilliard 100+ yards.

And a game ball to fickyfack for giving an almost accurate prediction on the score( and we should go to Vegas with fickyfack so we can all get a payday!)

probably the only time i've ever come close. so happy for the team...

Just got home from the charter flight with the team. What a victory. The whole attitude of the team, coaches, staff, boosters, and administration is soooo positive. We stayed at a great hotel last night with the team and they had an awesome reception for the boosters where everyone can meet and greet each other. Everything was awesome.
Going to the tailgate today most of the OSU people didn't say a word to us as we passed them and wore our Sac St garb. I heard of one comment made by a OSU fan that asked "did you bring your high school team today"? I wish I could have talked to him after the game.
After the game when we loaded up the 3 busses, we were escorted out of town with a full police escort with lights going and shutting down intersections, pretty cool and emphasizing the win! We even saw some Oregon Duck fans on the roadside giving us the thumbs up sign congratulating us for the win!
This is a great victory for the program, lets keep it rolling next week. The Sac St fans made some noise today (especially at the end when the stadium went silent) so lets get a lot of people going to the road games.

Congratulations on the huge win. Way more meaningful upset than ours at SJSU last year. Makes me very excited for the rest of the season!

i would suggest the regulars on here flood the Grant Napier show on Monday...'yeah, Grant, can you give your your insights on the Hornets' big win and their chances for the FCS playoffs?'. you might have to tell the call screener you are calling about the new arena or the Mountain Lions or high school football to make it on, but, it would be fun to hear his take!
