Week 1 Predictions EWU @ Oregon: Eags WIN! 42 -61

Well, was holding on to starting the game prediction until there was some clarity around who would start at QB for Oregon... The cat is out of the bag and VA was named starter. (click on depth chart in article to get pdf)

So......... Eags are a vastly different team in many ways this season. A great deal of youth, improved overall team speed, size up front on DL, new weapons on offense with the TE and new 4-2-5 defense and DC. Also see these players are VERY hungry, aggressive and competitive.

Some things remain the same; Coach B and staff are whole, many returning OL, WR corps is intact and still likely to be the most dominate group in FCS, MOST IMPORTANTLY a true emphasis on competing remains and was enhanced by two superior recruiting classes and depth at every position.

Oregon is a team in transition as well and offers overall team speed like nothing the current crop of Eags have ever seen. This one is a game of attrition; although Eastern is considered "up tempo", this game will truly be a track meet for our defense.

We stop the run up the middle and attack the edges with the rover and safeties to bottle up VA and the backs and make Oregon have to throw over the top. There will be some big plays for Oregon and likely a TO for our defense as our edge rushers put some pressure on VA. (They are going against one of the best lines in FCS in practice every day after all)

Want to go 100% HOMER.

Reason tells me Oregon by two TD's, but don't think Oregon can stop the offense: EWU 48 -- OU 45

West will have a very good game. Oregon's D isn't as good as UW's last year IMO. Eastern's line is superb. Coach B will change tempo whenever possible and is a superior coach to Frost/Helfrich at OU. We know VA can get fidgety. The D gets 2 TO's in the second half, Eastern win's this game.

Prediction?!?!

VA breaks single game yards record from Halliday, only to top it again when playing WSU later in the year.

This seems like a lot of head games being played by Oregon.....my vote is a ewu win....and heads will roll....this could really turn the locker room against the coach if Lockie is as well liked as people say he is.

I predict that I will dislike the lame ducks as much as ever, regardless of the outcome.

I also predict that Sampson Ebukam reintroduces himself to VA several times in this game.

After watching the Eags perform against OSU and UW the last couple of seasons, I do believe that anything is possible. VA played a big role in those outcomes but so did our receivers/O-line and all of them are returning and then some. That being said, we are going to have our hands more than full against UO. Oregon's team speed is ridiculous. I actually think that our chances to compete go up with Adams as starter. He is going to want to impress fans/coaches/former teammates coming out of the gate and that could be a negative for UO. Trying to do too much often works against QB's. If VA does the simple things well, Oregon is going to be tough to beat. If he tries to do too much, turnovers are likely which is the only way EWU wins this game. We need to go at least +2 in turnover margin to make this a close game and have a shot at winning. That's my take.

go eags!

I predict that VA will start this game, but not finish. He will be taken out by either Helfrich (big lead), injury (he's small and not solidly built like Russell Wilson), or cramps.

I predict that EWU will make whOregon fans nervous for at least three quarters.

I predict that UO will still be a classless, arrogant, "Rules? What rules?" program no matter the outcome. (I know, really going out on a limb here).

I predict that Kupp will have two TDs.

I predict fuck Oregon.

:)

Hey, look! We made the front page of NFL.com!

SE-174,
Love your prediction on Oregon. This team will be ready for next Saturday. This Defense is jelling at the right time. VA better watch his ass, we have something for him. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Not bitterness, just plain talk. ;) ;) ;) Will be at the Scrimmage this at 9:45 a.m. The entire team knew that he was going to start for Oregon, they are waiting now to get him on the field on the other side, the opponent side. Saw a great Soccer Game yesterday, our ladies played to a draw 1-1 in double OT. See some you early this morning. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

Yep. He will be thinking "big play" and has been sucked into the media machine that is Oregon football. Not a good thing. His experience may see him clear, his youth says it won't. Either way, Eag fans are completely fired up for this one. Wish I could be there. Got the Pac12 Network for the game and looking forward to the DEAFENING silence at Autzen when EWU takes a lead in the third quarter as RB's explode for 200 yards and it looks like there are 14 WR's on the field for OU's defense to cover as West goes off for 5 TD's and 400+ yards. Yikes, my Kool Aid has caffeine in it.

Let me get some of what you're smoking. Oregon will score on every possession. I put absolutely zero stock in this game in terms of how good we're going to be this year and the buildup to this game is a shitty situation that the program just needs to put into it's rearview mirror.

Oregon 64
Eastern 27

Agree with you, this game is NOT a barometer for this team or how it will perform once conference play begins. I hope with nothing to lose, the team is loose and turns it loose on Oregon, enjoys the spectacle of the "big" game and comes away knowing they can compete for a Natty in the FCS.

You may be right. My biggest concern is with stopping the Duck offence, with their many weapons. But I really think our offense is strong enough to score on most of our possessions as well, even without VA. It isn't like UO is known for bohemeth defenses that make the SEC shudder. I predict EWU will score 42. The realist in me says UO will score something like what you predicted.

Some of you need your heads examined.

If you looked into stats any further than PPG, you'd know that Oregon has had an elite defense over the past 5 years. Top 5 in points per play and takeaways.

Enjoy the beating

You logged in to post this pithy comment? What's the final score Howard? Will you be delivering this beating personally? You do realize your team is being led by an FCS transfer right? The beating you should be talking about is the one your coaches should get for being ill prepared for the departure of Mariotta... My prediction for Oregon is dissension.

Hell yes it should be a beating! We give up 22 scholarships and the ones we do hand out are to lower division talent...oh wait....

Elite defenses are not ranked 54th in passing efficiency D, or 89th in 3rd down conversion against, or 60th in rushing D...

Oregon IS evidently ranked 108th in statistical analysis though.
