Week 1 - Sac State at South Dakota State

August 30th is a big one as we face South Dakota State, and a lot of people think they’re the favorite to win the national championship this year. That’s a tough matchup for anybody, and it puts a lot of pressure on us right out of the gate.

The good news is we’ve been bringing in solid recruits, and it feels like the program is building the right way. The question is—can we put it all together and actually pull off a win against the best of the best?

What do you all think? Can Sac State shock everyone on August 30th?

It should be an exciting game. Both teams are potent. The O & D lines will be at WAR

I want to go on record that I will not be shocked when we win. I believe we have better talent and better coaches. I realize that there is a great deal of pressure to get our current roster to play together but this is also a huge transition year for South Dakota State.

OSH bringin' the positivity!!!!!

The SDSU Offense and Defense will each feature a starter that started for us in 2024. Coleman Kuntz and Mason Brosseau.
Coleman Kuntz has been dealing with injuries all through camp, he's questionable for this weekend. When he does play I don't think he'll be starting, but will see plenty of playing time as we usually play 3-4 tight ends a game. Same with Brosseau, I don't think he starts but he'll see plenty of snaps as we like to rotate 8-10 guys on the DL.

This is a huge transition year for us, as many unknowns as I can ever remember. But even with that there is still enough holdover talent that will (should?) make the transition as seamless as it can be. It also helps that both of our coordinators had successful stints here in the 2010's and are back with the same/very similar schemes we've been running for almost 15 years.

Of course that doesn't mean we'll be in midseason form on Saturday, I still expect plenty of sloppiness from both teams to be honest. I suspect both offenses will be a little ahead of the defenses in this game, and who can get a stop or turnover at key times will likely win this game. Of course I like SDSU to win but there really isn't any possible result in this game that would be shocking to me.

Due to the difficulty of effectively preparing for the Go Go offense I can see us putting up a bunch of points if we take care of the football. I have no idea whether we can stop them when they have the ball but we most certainly have the personnel to get after their ass at a pretty good rate. I'm thinking we are a couple of opportunistic takeaways from outscoring them.
I certainly would not have been this optimistic in past years.

This is not a super secret seeing as even South Dakota State’s head coach mentioned it on his radio show this week. I think we are back to an Asher/Jake situation. Williams is too much of an athlete to keep off the field in this offense.

Also. Very little respect for their new head coach. They have been playing “two-deep games” this week. Sounds like we aren’t convinced what was sent to the staff is going to match up with what is in their game notes when they get released today.

The only game we played in ours was that despite starting two running backs, we only listed 2. I think we will have 7 on the travel roster of 58. Which is the new normal for the go-go
