Week 1 - UTAH STATE

Most are fairly reasonable. Our game against them three years ago doesn't help. But, a lot has changed since these two teams last locked horns. Weber is definitely on the rise and USU, well, isn't. Not to say that the Aggies aren't going to have a good year, or that they don't have a good team. I think they will have a good year and that they have a good team, but the talent level isn't where it was the last time these two teams hooked up. Weber has caught up with USU somewhat. Enough to win? I don't quite think so, but enough to be competitive.

My concern is still the QB spot. Weber cannot be one-dimensional against USU. Against other Big Sky Schools and FCS competition Weber can play smash-mouth football and get W's. USU is a different animal. Weber has to prove it can pass the ball consistently and for yardage. We have to be a two-dimensional offense, to have a chance at an upset. USU doesn't have the talent or depth it had under Anderson, but they are still a good team and program. Matt Wells isn't a slouch and will have his team ready to go. This is an important game for recruiting, instate bragging rights, and most importantly not to start the season off with a close win (see last year), or possibly a loss (Wyoming). That definitely sets the tone for the season, and losing to Weber would not be a good indicator for the Aggies.

Now for the Cats. Weber has to earn some respect. Hit them in the mouth and not back down. The last time we played USU, it was absolutely embarrassing. Weber has to go into Logan and prove they are back and dangerous. A Win would be absolutely amazing.

Any Weber State win in a FBS opponent game, regardless if USU isn't the power it's been in the last several years, is amazing & noteworthy to the college sports scene. Weber St is like what...1-XX (a win vs. Aggies back in a '70's snowstorm in Logan)?! Make it 1 more win or at least compete & don't get kicked to the curb like last time under "Ahh--Shoot" Coach Jody Sears. :twocents:

We will try to force them to throw and they will try to do the same thing to us. It may come down to who can do the best job of just that. If both teams do a reasonable job of stopping the run, then it is a crap shoot to see who might pull ahead with the pass game. I think that it shapes up to be a very interesting game. It isn't a make or break game for either team. It's just about pride for both sides.

FYI (if missed it) WeberStateSports.com news states that David Hale, former WSU player/All-American/NFL player (Ravens) will join the 1430 KLO radio broadcast coverage as color commentator, along with anchor Steve Klauke.

Also, it lists for the Aggie game Thursday, in addition to radio KLO coverage, to watch live coverage, it's on CampusInsiders.com (subscribe).

Looks like no TV station coverage for this game, but KJZZ covers Wildcat football home games this season, as was mentioned earlier here. :coffee:

70-6...Last time the Cats met, the Aggies ran up the score. If I was in coach's shoes, I would make sure that every player on the team knew about what happened last time. Weber needs to go into Logan and gain back respect. I'd love nothing more than to see a Wildcat win on Thursday night.

USU was up 49-0 at half and we took our starting QB out in the second quarter. Then the backup qb came in and threw 4 passes all game. Not sure what else you wanted to avoid "running up the score."

That past game really means nothing. USU was at a peak when we were in a deep valley. It happens. Even if it ended 49-0, it's the same game. We are a bit stronger now and USU may or may not be at the same place as before. I'm hoping that we make it a little more respectable this time around. We will see in a couple of days. I like the Aggies, I just happen to love me some Wildcats. Lets do this.

Yah, that unglorious football season was so bad it was tough NOT to run up the score, at least by the FBS-ers. Note that the week before, the Utes handed Weber St. a 70-7 kicking to the curb. A year to delete from the painful, embarrassing football memories...there seems to be so many.

Different year, different circumstances, great coaching staff now, things are looking up. Having said that, hope the Wildcats come through with a decent effort vs. Utah State. Side note, SUU plays at the Utes same night, we'll see how the T-birds fare but unfortunately for them, it's a different team that's lost good players & some coaches. Probably results alot different from their 9-12 effort last yr against the Aggies. :shocking:

Aggie, you are right. But, some fodder never hurts. :thumb:

Weber was in a terrible position. That was one of the worst times in Wildcat Athletics, while it was one of the best for the Aggies. That USU team was fun to watch.

I'd say, that year Weber gave up an average of 41 ppg while we put up an average of 15 ppg

Last year we gave up an average of 24.5 ppg and we put up an average of 22.4 ppg.

So a significant decrease in opponent ppg and an increase in our own ppg.

This Weber team has come a long way since that horrible 2013 season. I don't think Weber will beat USU (though wouldn't be surprised if they did) but as long as Weber goes into Logan and plays their best and earns the respect of the Aggie players and don't lose embarrassingly I'll be happy.

IT"S GAME DAY

GO WILDCATS

Who cares about the respect of the Aggie players? I want Weber to play to a level that they themselves can respect. Anyhoo, it's game day and football is back! I'm outnumbered around the office at a ratio of about 19:2 Aggie/Weber fans. I can't wait for kickoff and am hoping for a competitive game. GO WEBER!

Who else is going up to infuse some purple into their blue and white #stripethemav color scheme?

Is Bengalhater the friend in the group that always forgets his wallet when you go out to dinner?
