Week 1 - UTAH STATE

Pretty early to post that after one game against a pretty good FBS team. Go troll somewhere else! The real fans will judge a team by how they bounce back and how well they do in conference.

My take on the team after Utah State...
Strengths - Ol, RB, TE, LB & S's. They all looked good and will be a force against FBS teams.
Weaknesses - QB - maybe Hill just doesn't understand this position enough. Clarks throws didn't come out of
his hand even looking like they came from a college QB. He did reads better than last year
but still leaves a lot to be desired. Total lack of accuracy...
DE - this position was a joke. Doesn't have the speed, experience or even fundamental sound-
ness to play effectively against any FBS level team and probably against even FCS.
Neutrals - DL, CB's - they looked adequate to the job at FCS level, but falls a little short against FBS level.

Takeaways From This Game: Team could definitely use a bit more overall team speed.
Can't win more than 6 or so games with this QB.
Gotta do something now about the DE's.
Has more strengths than weaknesses, but the weaknesses are killers.
I think the South Dakota game will be close...

Oh relax, I'm not the only one disappointed in the effort shown Thursday. I only posted that movie quote to lighten the topic because of our "Waterboy" poster. QB play is going to continue to haunt this team.

Final Post Game Wrap up:

WEBER STATE FAN BASE-PATHETIC!! less than an hour drive for the season opener and besides the Band of WSU it was basically no show. Coach Hill's wife with cancer was able to show up at least some fans could show up.

Doesn't help this was a road game happening on a Thursday night in the first week of school. I bet we could have seen better turn out if it was a weekend game

Did I watch the wrong game on Thursday night? Jay Hill just said on 1280 that Jadrian Clark played VERY well against USU. :wall:

Well...that was not what I was expecting. Wow, what an butt kicking we received in Logan. Utah State was not going to lose that game. They were ready for Weber and took it to us the entire game. While we acted like the game was in the bag and assured a win without actually playing the game. Gotta hand it to Wells, he had his team ready to go. I just hope that Weber learns from this and gets better. The biggest issue was the coordinators. I really don't think they did a good job at all. That game, from a coaching standpoint, was not called well in the slightest.

So...the Big Sky ended up with some big wins. Nice job Copper Kupp and the Eastern Washington Eagles. I think Eastern should change their mascot from the Eagles to the Kupps. He is unreal. He deserve all the accolades he is getting. Unreal!!

On the flip side...WOW!! Jody Sears probably needs to get his resume dusted off again. Sac State's loss to DII Western Oregon was definitely the low point of the weekend. That has gotta hurt.

Cal Poly and Montana State were fields goals away from taking their respective games to OT against Nevada and Idaho. UNCO and ISU beat up lower level schools, gotta get confidence from somewhere, and finally, Montana looked average against St. Francis (a middle of the road FCS).

Maybe Coach Hill was looking at the wrong stats, he could have been looking at EWU's QB numbers and daydreaming... Gage Gubrud in his first collegiate start (on the road against Pac 12 team Washington), 34-40 for 474 yards and 5 TD's, 77 yards rushing and 1 td... WSU hasn't seen anything close to those numbers since Higgins graduated.

We had no passing attack. Either coach doesn't understand the passing game and what a decent QB looks like or he is trying to prop up the confidence of Clark. We have wasted way too many snaps with this sham of a QB. I don't know if we have any other options, but if not we won't be a playoff team. Feels like a step backwards.

We were definitely out coached. While I don't believe Weber had the talent to win, I do believe we could have competed. Lack of containment on the ends and zero pass rush on defense combined with an anemic offense made us look much worse than I hoped for.

Where are the adjustments on defense? I am not sure we blitzed once. We took poor angles to the ball carrier repeatedly and never seemed to change our approach.

My final thought on this game: This type of game can only kill instate recruiting. WSU gets their doors blown off by an average MWC team, meanwhile down the road in SLC, SUU was only down 17-0 to the Utes going into the 4th quarter.
If you are going to play against instate FBS teams, please stop pissing down your own legs. Go play at UNLV, Wyoming, or New Mex and nobody instate will care if you get creamed. :wall: :wall: :wall:

Couldn't have said it any better myself. To me this is a measure for instate recruits. 10 years ago, Weber and Utah State fought over a number of recruits. Weber won a lot of those battles, now they will lose immediately based off of the direction the programs are headed. I went to the game, I could tell which administration cared more about its program and most importantly was building its foundations better. I'm losing my support for our overall administration. They just don't seem to care or worse, they don't want to work for it. Our football team is a window into the entire university. Can potential slap us in the face any harder? We have a chance to do something and lay an egg. Same thing happened at home last October to SUU. We are taking a backseat to everyone else in the state. Lets not be innovative and hardworking, but lets see what "they" are doing before we try something. Despicable!

This is what I see in a nutshell. Weber has almost no marketing program. Roster data, two deep charts, injury reports etc. are woefully unshared. The athletic department seems to have minimal online presence. If the program held any importance to the University they would invest in something beyond free ticket giveaways and word of mouth advertising.

Weber will continue to lose ground instate and in the Big Sky if the students, community, and athletic supporters are not energized. The University has no problem contacting me multiple times per year for donations, but they don't understand that the way reach into donor wallets is to support those things on campus which generate interest and connection to the University.

:+1: :+1: Flag me for "piling on" penalty, but my sentiments as well.

Agreed! Great statements by WSUwildcat, waterboy, and n.ogden. I like Bovee a lot, but he isn't helping himself succeed with the council he's assembled.
