Week 10 - NAU

Northern Arizona, one of the pre-season favorites, has somewhat awakened (?) to that status as they have won 3 straight...but are 3-2 (BSC) 4-4, last game beating Montana 45-34 in Flagstaff. Don't know of the latest BSC power rankings (CNuanez must have been off this past week on this forum) but they were behind Weber State before.

Wildcats, after a disappointing (in more ways than one) loss to UND, are 4-1 / 5-3. Meaning 2 wins away from being playoff eligible, for what it's worth...with the Big Sky standings showing 2 undefeated teams in UND, EWU, then 2 one loss teams in WSU, Cal Poly ahead of 2 teams with 2 losses NAU & UNC.

That's 6 teams possibly vying for the playoffs at this point, but reality is usually 3 or 4 are invited? Important game for both the Lumberjacks & Wildcats!

I'm thinking a Wildcat win is in store, at home Sat. afternoon, 31 - 24. :coffee:

NAU is a good team. They play the majority of their games indoors. That alone is a positive for us. They live at 7,500 ft. They don't have a problem playing at 5,000 ft. No advantage to anyone. Our home field, advantage to us. Our young, more inexperienced defenders have been getting better all season long. Our offense has been up and down. When they do not turn the ball over, they can be good. NAU's offense has shown signs of real strength lately.

I give a slight advantage to us, based on an improving D and home field advantage.

WSU 35 - 28

Nau lost their All american QB to an injury early on in the season. Each game the back up gets better thus the 3 straight wins by the flapjacks. WSU will have to win their last 3 games to go to the playoffs based on the strength of their schedule. WSU has yet to win a conference game against a winning team. Hopefully NAU will be the first. Maybe WSU can hire some of their own ref's this week like UND did.

This is a BIG game for the Cat's this week. NAU is always a tough match up and it is always a very physical game. Time for the Wildcats to put that Dakota game behind them and kick some Lumberjack ass!
#GoWildcats!!!

This is definitely a winnable game. I think NAU will put up yards, but so will Weber. Yes, Cookus is out, but their back up QB has been lighting it up lately. NAU recently put a major beat down on the Griz and if that team shows up against the Cats, it could be a long day. Even if the Jacks put a beat down on the Griz, it was in Flagstaff. One nice, and noticeable thing about this seasons edition of the Jacks is that NAU has been a different team on the road than the one that plays in Flagstaff. It will come down to who has the better defense. I believe Weber is the better team defensively. Weber has to put pressure on the Jacks QB and get him out of rhythm early.

As for the Cats, we really need to get big Chase Larson back. He is so important to anchoring the OL and helping to protect the QB. With him out last week, our line struggled. The OL gave up 7 sacks. Along with the 4 TOs and 9 penalties, that is really tough for a team to overcome. What hurt the most with him out was our running game. On the flip side, I really think that Adam Rodriquez playing at MLB was an improvement for the Cats. Yes, we desperately need Legrand Toia to get back, but with his first start at MLB, Adam did a really good job for the Cats. He ended up with 9 total tackles. We need our MLB to be making plays.

Feels good to be excited about Weber football games in November!

Too bad we won't have a snowstorm on Saturday to welcome the Lumberjacks with.

Do or die week for the Wildcats if they are going to the playoffs!
Need to beat NAU and follow it up with wins the following two weeks!
Luv to see the Wildcats going 8-3 this season vs. 6-5 again.
Must stop all of the penalties, Mistakes, INT's and all of the other mindless mishaps from last week!
I was on Hoskins 30# band wagon as the best DB on the Wildcats. He is the only DB that hasn't gotten burned this season. However his special teams play has been a killer. Hoskins got called off sides on the 4 th qtr kickoff during the SUU game that was a fumble recovery for the Wildcats that was negated because he was 3 yards ahead of the kickoff and last week he was called for a block below the waist 20 yards behind the the 60 yard punt return against UND. Dumb freshman mistakes must stop, couple of hundred yards in penalties in the past 2 games! Along with 3 INT's and a fumble lost last week to UND. Hard to win when dumb mistakes.

I'm with you 100% this week, ncaa. I apologize for may past criticism. I do appreciate your input.

I agree, it's great to once again be in the playoff hunt discussions (though nobody is giving us a chance).

NAU even without Cookus is a good team and they are starting to gel without him. They have won three in a row but they have been against MSU (0-5), ISU (1-4) and in my opinion a highly overrated Montana team (2-3) at home. (Granted you could say the same things about our wins  )

The Wildcats and the Lumberjacks have had some dandy matchups in the past and I think this one will be similar. Here's hoping that the Wildcats can get back on the winning track and move ever closer to securing a playoff bid.

Haha, have been having those same thoughts. The '09 blizzard bowl was the most memorable sports event I've ever attended.

Tim Toone had an incredible punt return TD that game.

There was also a snow storm when we hosted them in 2011 for Mac's last home game. Those AZ boys do not enjoy the inclimate weather!

I keep hoping that a surprise storm hits this weekend. Right now...nothing, except for a perfect day to watch football; 59 and clear.

NAU has been afflicted by the TO bug and has used the TO bug to find success. Against UNCO they got beat by the cubbies, because NAU couldn't hold onto the ball. They out-gained, out-played, and out-everything against UNCO, except for the final score. However, against Montana, NAU's defense was totally exposed, but they ended up getting the win because of TOs and big plays. Not saying NAU's win over Montana was a fluke but with how badly Montana beat up the Lumberjacks defense you can't help but wonder.

NAU with Cookus is an offensive juggernaut. Kemp isn't a bad QB, but he isn't as skilled or accurate. But, in relief he has shown himself as being good enough to keep NAU's fortunes afloat. A lot of that is due to freshman running back Joe Logan who is averaging 95 yards rushing a game and keeping a two-dimensional option available for the Jacks.

For the love of God, please tell me there isn't a damned blizzard prediction this weekend.

After a painful, injury-filled 1-4 start to the season NAU is starting to show signs on life. Offense has adjusted to Kemp at the helm instead of Cookus and the defense, while still giving up yardage, is getting take away's at opportune times.

NAU is 20-5 at home the last 5 seasons but only 14-15 on the road. Based on this alone, Weber State is favored at home in this one.

LOL!! Unfortunately for us there is no blizzards in the forecast this weekend.

I have been very impressed by the resolve of the NAU team since Cookus went out. The team has responded big time and are meshing well right now. This is definitely the toughest home game for Weber to this point. It's gonna be a battle like most WSU/NAU battles are.

One thing I've come to know being a Weber State fan is home and away records mean absolutely Jack (no pun intended) I have literally seen everything, the good, the bad and the worse when it comes to Weber State.

So this is it, do or die! Wildcats have got to WIN against the Jackoffs or we start convincing ourselves that Coach Hill has recruited some amazing class of the future. The future is this now for the Wildcats!
After missing many more FG's than he has made, looks like Hintze is benched this week. After using for 15 yards last week as an offense, looks like Coach Hill has to play Zach Smith to try to get ground game going because there is no chance of Wilkes coming back. After throwing 3 INT's and trying to run the QB shuffle keeper all game, Wildcats throw the ball for a big win!!! We need it this week.

There is some storm activity moving up from the Four corners area. There is a slight chance of it making its way to Ogden by game time. Wouldn't that be something? It wouldn't be snow, but any storm can impact a game, even wind.
