Week 11 - #12 Sac State vs Portland State

Anddddd apparently, you can just rip the ball out of guys arms when they are down, and these refs are killing us, wow… two ints called back

2 pick 6 (3 interceptions) called back. Bogus calls. Targeting was questionable too. 7 didn’t launch, he’s just significantly taller than the back.

Portland State lucky to be this close

Was thinking the same. Sac State should have 35 points right now

How many touchdowns do you have to score for one to count? Three apparently.

21-7 Hornets at the half

Keep up the interceptions Hornets in the 2nd half Hopefully the officials will be a bit nicer to the green and gold team in the nd 2half.

Love to see the team go for it with whatever time is left.

First kick off return for a touchdown in 7 years. Love it

Roll on Hornets in the Fog Bowl at Hornet Stadium

Game is not on local ch. 31 like it’s listed to be.

I’ve had to resort to streaming on ESPN+.

Hmmm, I’m watching on ch 31

I am too, now. However the first 15 minutes they were airing Entertainment Tonight then finally switched over. Thought maybe it was a DirectTV issue but discovered the same over-the-air.

CH.31 had a bit of a snafu.

The penalty on the Mapu INT return was bogus. They called #39 Jeremy Harris for simply blocking the QB on the return. He didn’t hit him high, cut him or drive him to the ground. It was a very legal, yet physical block.

I guess they expected Harris to just allow the QB to freely chase down the play.

The officiating has been an embarrassment thus far.

Domination.

Defense gave up too much rushing yardage, especially on 1st downs, and there were far too many penalties but other than that the Hornets owned this game.

49-20 Hornet win. It was a little ugly early and the refs did all they could to keep PSU in the game, but the Hornet talent prevailed and rolled up the points in the 2nd half. Dominating performance against a PSU team that was peaking at the right time. A lot of penalties was the only negative on the night (some just bad calls by the refs).

Offense was unstoppable except but had some hiccups in the redzone early on. OL dominated the entire way. O’Hara (2/6, 18 yds, 1 TD, 13 car, 102 yds, 1 TD) had some big runs and showed better ball control. Dunniway (16/24, 281 yds, 1 TD) dropped some dimes and that pass to set up a TD at the close of the 1st half was huge as it followed on the heels of the 2nd pick 6 called back. Skattebo (7 car 85 yds, 1 TD, 4 cat, 40 yds, 1 TD) kept churning on the ground and added some nice receptions as well.

Hornet defense played very well in a bit of a bend but don’t break manner. Secondary had a huge game with 3 picks (should have been 4 and 2 pick six’s) and harassed Alexander all game. A good portion of PSUs yards came in garbage time.

Special teams provided the spark that really turned the tide for the Hornets. Gandy’s huge 94 yard kickoff return for a TD that answered PSU’s TD turned things around. Sentkowski (2/3 FG, 6/6 PAT) was solid again, but came up short on a 50 yarder trying to kick into that thick fog.

Stingers up!

As a bonus, EWU beat the dungpilers so they are out of contention for the BSC title. We win Causeway and at worst it's a shared title with MSU and likely a seed in the playoffs.

A day later and the W still feels good. :)

After a slow, sluggish start to the season, this team is very much trending upward.

They’ve got numerous freshman playing significant roles and contributing. The 2-headed QB approach is working. The defense is improving.

Hopefully Pierre Williams gets well soon. He’s an x-factor.

There’s lots to be excited about. Thing I like most offensively is the opponent can’t just focus on one thing. We are doing everything well. We can run it conventionally or with our QB’s. When we sling it, you can’t focus on just Williams or Martin. We got skill talent everywhere!

I was present, about four rows up at the 40 yard line (North) on the home sideline.

My impressions: Both primary Hornet QBs did a fine job, but were hampered by bogus officiating. They were also hampered by poor play selection that kept the ball out of the hands of Cameron Skattebo for much of the game. When Sakattebo DID get the ball, he was his usual stellar self. It did take a while for the Hornets to get things going, but the officiating had a lot to do with that.

Defensively, we did fairly well, too. BOTH of those called-back pick sixes were bogus. The Hornets did absolutely NOTHING wrong on those, and there was a technical issue with the first one: it was a pre-snap foul (if indeed it existed, which it did not), so if it were called at all, it should have terminated the play from the get-go. Additionally, that targeting call was almost as bad as that one a couple of years ago that cost NAU their quarterback: it wasn't even close. It really seemed like the zebras were bought and paid for by Portland State (or at least the Conference hierarchy), at least early. Once we got going in the second half, though, we were hard to stop on both sides of the ball.

The atmosphere was pretty surprising, at least in terms of weather. I didn't go to our HS playoff game Friday night, both because of the fog (EVERY playoff game in the Sac-Joaquin Section was socked in with fog) and because of the draconian ticketing policy that requires a smart phone to show proof of purchase (i.e. no purchases allowed at the gate with either cash or card, and no printing of tickets). I was also concerned that it would be along the lines of our '90s dream Sac-Notre Dame matchup in terms of a blowout, but it was actually a peer matchup; Modesto-Central Catholic only beat us 38-34. But Sac-PSU? No visibility problems whatsoever, which led me to question not only those penalties, but also that missed FG, which looked VERY good from my angle. And no problems getting in, either: they took one look at my VA card and waved me in. I picked up a decent tri-tip meal at the log cabin-looking food truck. I even ran into two of my Hornet teammates (WR Bob Ghazanfari and QB-TE Scott Towne) and a classmate whose son is in the marching band. Overall, it was an outstanding night, though I did wonder why QB3 was so late in coming in, and why we bothered with QB4 just to take a knee. There WAS one spot after O'Hara had had some extended time (causing me to wonder if Dunniway was OK), when it looked like Dunniway was going to come back in, but they eventually entered QB3. I was really impressed with A. the offense's recovery from losing those pick sixes and B. that super-amazing KOR. SD's writeup is spot-on, as per usual, and BHF has some good comments as well, particularly concerning pick six #2.

I'm sorry for taking so long to get in. My cat destroyed my laptop Sunday night, and it took this long to get a new one....

First comment. Hahahaha. Poor play selection. Yep. That was what was happening. I’m sorry you are not the offensive coordinator.

Second comment. They weren’t your teammates because you didn’t play football at Sac State. You were a part of the program, but you weren’t on the team.

Can we just ban him and end this delusional fantasy?

Why so much hate for Super Hornet? If he really bothers you this much, you should just stop reading his posts. Given the small number of hornet fans out there, not sure the value in trying to run someone off.

Because he’s lied about playing football for so many years. He doesn’t watch or listen to games. He insults our coaches constantly. Him being an admin on this site causes people not to post.

If you want to have serious discussion, you should not have to deal with a delusional liar.

Actually, that's not true. I've always been upfront about the fact that I was a relatively low-impact participant in the three college football programs I've been a part of, and would likely have played on Senior Day (if at all), learning along side the rest and encouraging them. I watch the games when they are broadcast (as I will this afternoon's Causeway Classic), and my opinions typically develop as the season develops, though often much more slowly than that of the others. I have also been upfront about my old school, conservative outlook, but have never gone out of my way to enforce that on others. We are traditionally a small but collegial board, with light teasing going on. I have no idea where this guy has come, but he clearly has a bone to pick of which I am unaware, and finds great joy in hiding behind Internet anonymity in trying to bully people. That is the last I will directly address this guy, as I am leaving his continued presence up to my fellow moderators because it directly involves me. Were he to blast, say, SD or BHF (which he clearly has not, and apparently has no interest in or reason for doing so), I would take more direct action.

Was giving you a chance to be a man and be truthful to the folks on this board. If folks want to believe you, that’s up to them.

The people close to the programs you speak of know the truth.

Good luck with everything on the board. As we gain a local and National audience, someone who knows the truth had to call you out. But this has become part of your fabric.

Last you’ll hear from me.
