Week 11 - Cal Poly

S/B an interesting match up between Wildcats - Mustangs on Saturday (noon). Both are 4-2 in Big Sky tied with NAU for 3rd place after undefeated UND & EWU. Playoff eligibility for Weber St means they must win out in the next two games; for Cal Poly, they only need to win one. Much is still in play as NAU visits North Dakota Sat.

Mustangs have some solid wins in BSC play & their 2 losses were to UND & just got beat by EWU by a solid margin 42-21. Wildcats have now lost 2 straight tough games & this would be their last chance to beat a team with a winning record in the Big Sky, then ending the season (?) in Pocatello vs. Bengals.

Is winning momentum lost now for the Wildcats? Please prove me wrong CATS on this one> Poly 38 - WSU 24.

Losing to NAU really hurt our chances at a playoff berth, but it didn't kill it entirely.

A win over Cal Poly and ISU may lift us enough to sneak at the lowest possible at large. (which would most likely mean a trip to Missoula and most likely one and done).

Weber looked really uninspired against NAU. I want to see more emotion out of this team. They seemed to be riding high up until the loss to UND. It almost also seems like the offense has lost it's confidence. NAU doesn't have the greatest defense and we couldn't move the ball on them at all until the end of the 3rd and the beginning of the 4th qtr.

I would love to see Weber pick up a victory over the Mustangs and keep their playoff chances (however slim) alive. But I just don't think Weber has the horses (pun intended) to keep up with Cal Poly.

Here's the thing (best case scenario) In this game, 3 things are possible: Wildcats win, they are 6-4, 5-2 BSC, a winning season both overall/BSC, no matter what happens vs. Idaho St., and finally, they are set up such that a win in Pokey gives them a 7-4 season & FCS playoff eligibility. And oh, by the way what do you know, they beat a team with a winning record (Cal Poly is 6-3)!! Those are the numbers, any disagreement?!

Naysayers say what you must as far as the likelihood and what is deserved or not & ignore the numbers that contradict you! Things may end up with a Wildcat loss Sat. & you can have at it & boldly yell "told you so, I was right"!

Now if the plus side possibilities are not incentive enough for the Wildcats...what else is there to play for!! This game, that's the reality of the numbers I read. :wall:

I'm still wondering which Weber State team is going to show up.

Also wondering if I'll show up.

Go 'Cats!

Weber wins if Chase Larsen plays. We need big Chase back in the middle.

I knew Chase was solid up front, but his absence has been a huge loss. Bigger than any other loss of the season in my opinion. North Dakota and NAU both brought pressure consistently in the 2nd half of each game and we had no answer. The O-Line struggled and with out protection and Jadrian looked like his old self.

If Chase is back we can control the game on the ground and play to our strengths offensively. Hopefully we eliminate our backup QB power package as well.

Hello Weber State fans, Mustang fan here. Can anyone tell me if live streams coming out of Ogden are typically high quality? I'm embarrassed to say that streams from San Luis Obispo are miserable.

Also, is there anyone here that was following Weber State football back in 1980/1981? A guy I played high school ball with was a junior college transfer to Weber State. He played QB and his name is Bill Tantillo.

Here's to a great game tomorrow with both teams emerging as healthy as they can this time of year.

So I took a look in the record books, Tantillo was the team leader in passing yards during the 1980 season, when the Cats finished 4-7 (4-4 in conference) and finished tied for fourth in the conference. Tantillo was 103-204 for 1,175 yards, four touchdowns and eight interceptions. Looks like he may have only had one full season of play for Weber, because there is a different passing yards leader listed for 1981

I haven't watched a home game over the internet for a few years now. However, quality was pretty bad back then. Most Big Sky feeds have improved somewhat in the last couple of years.

Since I didn't answer this before, stream looks really good IMO. Not HD professional sports quality, but definitely on the better end of college stream quality.

Been looking forward to this game for a few weeks. Last home game for a very average QB. Let's hope he comes to play and we don't implode. Weber tames the Mustangs 32-24

I was curious how much change has occurred in our two-deeps since the opening game of the season, so here it is...
OFFENSE
Running Back - Garrett & Wilkes injured and replaced with Moimoi & miscellaneous.
X Receiver - Livingston injured and replace with Tunney and Holmes taking backup position
Tight End - Satuala has been listed #1 all season but the real starter is Vollert, who is listed as the backup.
Center - Larson injured and replace with Simpson now, but earlier with Swanson.
So 4 of 11 positions have been effected...

DEFENSE
L. End - Lewis demoted to third string with Latu moving from backup to starter and Malan is back-up.
R. End - Williams is starter all year with the backup changing from Jared Scheiss to Tupuola.
Strong LB - Backup Key injured and replaced with Tesch.
Middle LB - Backup Afalava off team and replaced with Brown moving from Safety backup.
Weak LB - Tela injured and backup Stice moves to starter with Rodriquez assuming backup role.
L. Corner - Backup Miller moved to backup safety and Snowden assumes backup role.
Free Safety - Backup Brown move to LB and Miller assumes backup role.
Strong Safety - Tulane injured & Lopez moved from backup to starter with Fields taking backup position.
So 8 of 11 positions have been affected during the course of the year.

Helps me to understand a bit why the "D" is not as strong as I expected it to be...

 Me too, thanks.

Shutting NCAA up makes this win even sweeter! Way to play hard cats! I believe we have a playoff chance if we can win pretty handedly next week, because NAU and Montana lost.

Nice win, quality win by the 'cats! It was good, entertaining football today. Perfect match-up or they just came out to play?
